“Charming room, great location”
Reviewed 17 January 2014 via mobile

Arriving at the hotel was originally surprisingly, as we entered through a cafe on the piazza - there is little signage for the hotel at the given address.
However, once we were shown to our gorgeous room, all was well. We stayed in the deluxe room on the second floor - the only one with little verandas overlooking Piazza Bra and the amphitheatre. What a fabulous outlook! Huge and nicely appointed, with a giant bathroom and spa bath, the room was a pleasure to stay in. Our kids had a very nice double across the hall, but the view from ours was a huge advantage.
I strongly recommend this little hotel for its amazing location, friendly staff and lovely accommodations.

I stayed at the "Locanda Ippopotamo" with my girlfriend from 31.12.13.-02.01.14. The hotel has only few rooms and we were lucky to have the BEST room, maybe in the whole city in Verona: Big, cozy, with a large jacuzzi (for 2 regular persons) in a big bathroom, with a very comfortable bed, a minibar, a fruit basket, a Nespresso machine, a tee & water boiler (all inclusive) and a lot more... the best about the room was the balcony: it gives you an AMAZING view over the Piazza Brà and the Arena. On the other side you could see the Gran Guardia. The "Locanda Ippopotamo" was the PERFECT place to spend new year's eve. I will honestly never forget my stay here.

The location of "Locanda Ippopotamo" is simply PERFECT too.. you're pretty much in the center of Verona, right in front of the Arena. Via Mazzini and Porta Borsari are just around the corner, so you can also reach Piazza delle Erbe within a short time. Basically everything that is worth seeing in Verona can be reached quite quickly from here. A BIG plus!!

Also: The room was very clean and the staff (mainly people from the restaurant, since there is not really a reception) were very friendly and always helpful. Thanks a lot!

Last but not least: It's also worth to have one or several meals in the ristorante Ippoptamo.. not only do you get a 10%-discount.. their food is really good and they leave you a big choice in the menu! The breakfast is included and can be ordered "à la carte".. awesome! Try the "Ippopizza" (mix between an omelette and a pizza) with a fresh made OJ.

I 100% recommend Locanda Ippopotamo, especially for couples. You'll feel like Romeo & Juliet here!

Room Tip: Get the room with the balcony and the big jacuzzi! :-) You'll not regret it!

I love Verona! I visit it every year because I just enjoy its quite and romantic atmosphere. But in order to have the maximum comfort one must choose the right hotel. Ippopotamo's unbeatable location is by itself enough to make this hotel the best and probably the right hotel in Verona. I stayed at the Locanda during Christmas time and we really enjoyed the view from our room at the Arena and the christmas market. The bustling crowds can be seen from the room, the beautiful colourful buildings at Piazza Bra just look amazing from inside the room.

About the room, it is HUGE! Lots of space, very clean, tens of TV channels. I must also applaud the hotel for its generosity. Upon our arrival we were welcomed with a basket full of fruits and a free bar. The bed was very comfortable and of course the room is very well insulated, no noise at all.

While you may check in at the restaurant which is connected to the hotel building (since there is no regular reception), I would say that does not really matter. Once you are checked in, you could move easily from the back door where there are nice shops. So don't expect yourself to go through the restaurant every time. The advantage I found from the restaurant is that you get a chance to have a nice breakfast everyday (and the restaurant has a kids section where your children can play and have fun). The price was also reasonable.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Locanda Ippoptamo and I will definately book this hotel in my next year's trip to Verona.

What a wonderful suprise. The room with the balcony is unbelievable. In all of our travels in Europe this was our best place to stay. The location, accross from the colosseum is perfect. We would definitely stay again.

When you first arrive, you could be a little worried as there is only a pizza restaurant and no reception. However, after you have been shown how to get to the palatial room and have seen the view, you will wonder if that truck you nearly hit on the way here really did smash into you and this is Heaven!

A room you could live in. A bathroom where you could swing several cats. And a view of an operating Roman Arena. Magical.

A bit expensive, but the spot is fantastic - so close to everything. Nadia is great. You won't regret staying here, and you will remember it forever.

Room Tip: 201 has the balcony view of the square. Fantastic spot. Balcony is small, but there are ways to si...

Even if there is no reception, just a restaurant, it does not matter. Wonderful and spacious room with seperate sleeping space and bathroom for the children. The "hotel" part has its own entrance but all requests are handeled by the hotel manager (Nadia) or the restaurant. Great location just 1 minute from the Arena and if you get the right room you also get a view of the Plaza and the Arena! And finally a great breakfast ! Wonderful !

Although we arrived in the middle of a thunder storm, after a stressful drive in... Our night's stay in Verona could not have been more perfect. We were greeted by Nadia - Hotel Manager, such a friendly face and lovely lady, our stress was forgotten. Although situated behind a busy cafe, we couldn't have been treated any better. We were given a nice pint of Italian beer whilst waiting to go to our room, Nadia then took us to one of the most beautiful rooms we have ever stayed in, it was magnificent. Beautiful Italian rugs, paintings, a huge bed and sofa, the biggest bathroom (ever!) along with a perfect view of the arena. It was wonderful... We had dinner at the hotel... All staff were so friendly, we were very well treated... And what finished the evening was a bottle of Amarone at 40€ instead of 80€ from the lovely Nadia! Thank you Nadia and staff for a wonderful evening in Verona and making our night special.... We would certainly stay there again when we take another trip to Verona!

Room Tip: I am not sure if the hotel had a fitness centre and pool as we didn't use it so I can't giv...
