“Bad sound proofing, terrible coffee”
Reviewed 16 May 2011

The sound-proofing of the room is terrible, and I understand that some people pay 2 or 3 times mores for the room (depending on whether they booked via internet or not): this was the worst but most expensive hotel we had in Italy...The breakfast is 10 euros, but the coffee machine provides an undrinkable beverage. The hot chocolate is even worse: just water. There was a big mirror just in front of the bed (so you can see yourself reading at night?) maybe to provide the feeling that the room was bigger? Very bad taste. The service was nice though and people helpful, but I would NOT call this a 4 star hotel. I had also booked a large bed and first got a room with 2 separated beds... Then they forgot to give me back my national ID when I left (fortunately I saw that a few mn after we left). I would NOT recommend this hotel at all.

We thank you very much for your review.

Your comments are helpful for us to improve and we agree with you concerning the quality of the hot drinks of the breakfast room during your stay. Unfortunately we had problems with the drinks maker but we realized too late. We have now change the device and the hot drinks are perfect.

Concerning mirrors in the room we understand you did not like it but we also believe it is a matter of taste and there is not a lot to talk about. We can just add that it is the first time someone point out a mirror in front of the bed is poor taste: we will keep a proper balance of your record.

Regarding room rates we assure you nobody is paying "2 or 3 times mores for the room (depending on whether they booked via internet or not)"
We really do not know where you could get this information but we can explain very clearly our policy of the rates.
If you are booking directly to the hotel (calling or mailing) or if you are booking through a web hotel portal for reservations (internet), you will find the same rates. You can find rates including or not including breakfast.
Rates can be different if you book at different times. If you book three months in advance you will have a better price than booking one week before your arrival or if you book the same day of your arrival maybe you can get a last minute rate.
This is a common policy for city hotels or for other kind of business (i.e. flights or trains reservations).

We really thank you for your review that is helpful to improve day by day.

The hotel had an immensely high standard of cleanliness rooms are spacious and comfortable and the staff were exceptional with help and friendliness. Breakfasts were good . Tips about buses into Verona [ it is walkable,]; you need to have 1.20e in change on you to put in the machine inside the bus or you are stumped! You can buy these at the hotel for peace of mind. Another thing to know is the whereabouts of the bus ticket office at the main station. This is down the corridor to the left just inside the main entrance, otherwise you'll be a headless chicken looking for it. Pick up a bus route map in there as it is a revelation. Always remember to validate your train or bus ticket [ on the platform or in the bus.] If you are too tired to go into town , there is a little bistro called Da Gio almost next door to the hotel which gives you a great welcome and good homecooked food cheaply. It is used by locals but isn't crowded. It seems basic ,but is very good value.

Although close to the train station, not a walk away from the city center. Kind of ugly area.

I've been in Verona for a short stay, with leisure purposes. The hotel is quite far from city centre (around 2km), but still in walk distance for those who like to walk (30 to 40 minutes).
The hotel is in a safe place, with friendly staff, good sized rooms and absolutely clean. The price x benefit is excellent, and comparing with others in the city, I think that worth a lot.
If I had to go back to Verona for a short stay, definitely I would stay at Montresor again.

The hotel was on the outskirts of the city and they had sent us very easy-to-follow directions of how to get there via public transport. Just the airport shuttle bus to the railway station and then another bus (number 11) to the hotel. The hotel receptionist was very nice and helpful. The entrance itself was lovely with a big piano but it was a shame we never saw anyone playing it. The room had a hude bed in it, large bathroom and TV, which we didn't really watch as we were out all day but there was only CNN in English and TVE1 in Spanish. I think the rest of the other 12 channels were in Italian, which seemed a bit poor for a four star hotel. Still, it was clean, warm and we slept well. It's in a reesidential neighbourhood and only takes 20 minutes maximum to walk into the centre of the city. On the way there are some lovely squares to stop off at and have a drink.

The hotel is located about 2 km from the city centre, but there is a frequent bus service outside. The is ample free street parking for those with cars. The room we got was spacious and extremely comfortable, very clean and modern. The reception area is roomy and quite luxerious. The pricing was competitive and overall the hotel is a high quality 3 star. There are a couple of restaurants within a 5 minute walk.
