“Good hotel on the outskirts of the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2011

The hotel was on the outskirts of the city and they had sent us very easy-to-follow directions of how to get there via public transport. Just the airport shuttle bus to the railway station and then another bus (number 11) to the hotel. The hotel receptionist was very nice and helpful. The entrance itself was lovely with a big piano but it was a shame we never saw anyone playing it. The room had a hude bed in it, large bathroom and TV, which we didn't really watch as we were out all day but there was only CNN in English and TVE1 in Spanish. I think the rest of the other 12 channels were in Italian, which seemed a bit poor for a four star hotel. Still, it was clean, warm and we slept well. It's in a reesidential neighbourhood and only takes 20 minutes maximum to walk into the centre of the city. On the way there are some lovely squares to stop off at and have a drink.

The hotel is located about 2 km from the city centre, but there is a frequent bus service outside. The is ample free street parking for those with cars. The room we got was spacious and extremely comfortable, very clean and modern. The reception area is roomy and quite luxerious. The pricing was competitive and overall the hotel is a high quality 3 star. There are a couple of restaurants within a 5 minute walk.

After staying in another hotel for business earlier on this trip I was delighted to stay at this hotel. I made the booking through late rooms, where I asked if I could have a free upgrade to a double room. When I arrived at the hotel at 11am not only had I been given the free upgrade but I was also Informed that my room was ready, so could check in now! The room was clean and spacious although the mirror could do with being replaced. The bed was huge! The only downsides to the hotel was having to pay for Internet access, the distance into the town centre, 20 minute walk or 15 euro taxi and not having a swimming pool. Although I was aware of all of these before making the booking so would not hold this against the hotel. Ideal for a short stay.

A total slog to downtown Verona, but for the price, I guess it's alright.

The hotel itself looks atrocious from the outside, but the inside, while dark, is well-kept and neat. The rooms themselves were big enough, though the hallways were oddly very, very hot. Not sure if it's quite 4-star, but would definitely qualify it as 3-star+

One last comment, to pay for wifi internet in this day and age (including for the crap terminal they have by reception) is unacceptable.

This hotel was really cheap so we had misgivings - when we got there we thought we'd got the wrong place as it looked 5 star! Service was definitely 5 star - the front desk staff were SO helpful! Rooms seemed newly renovated and beautifully refurbished. Clean, comfortable, not too far from the centre of town (20 minute walk), plenty of room for luggage etc. Excellent value for money. Only downside was standard hotel thin walls (earplugs!).

We have just returned home from our holiday in Italy and had to inform others of our stay at the 4 Star Montresor Hotel Palace. In the title of this review I said it could be a 5 star hotel, I also included a question mark as there are a couple of elements that in my opinion holds the hotel back but these could just be me being picky!

As regards to the hotel, it doesn't look like much from the outside but we were blown away when we entered the building. The luxurious spotless lounge area with plenty of seating, a bar, grand piano and free fresh apples and sweets to help yourself to was a nice touch. The staff were simply fantastic, in particular a man (who's name we forgot to ask) with dark flowing hair, softly spoken and big welcoming smile was the star of the hotel, being very informative, friendly, approachable, kind and genuinely pleased to see us. The other staff at the front desk were also just as helpful and friendly.

The 3rd floor room (see image) was stunning and had everything you could want, comfortable, clean and luxurious and included many freebies such as shampoo, shower gel, shower caps, facial wipes, shoe sponges, soap etc. We required an extra pillow and this was no problem, when we returned to the room another was there on the bed. The room includes a mini bar with drinks and snacks - not included in the room cost, the price list is in the welcome pack. We also stayed in another room one night as we checked out from the hotel and returned a day or two later as we had a day in Bassano Del Grappa and we were very pleasantly surprised to find we (for no apparent reason) were upgraded to a suite for the night. This room was just as stunning only a little larger and included a 2 person shower. The only down side to this room was it was on the 1st floor and the noise was not good as you could clearly hear a person in another room upstairs on the phone, coughing, having a shower etc which kept us up as we wanted an early night.

As regards to the breakfast, it was very good, self service, a range of cereals, cakes, rolls, bread, fruit, drinks, eggs - scrambled and boiled etc. The other point which brings the hotel down slightly is the atmosphere in the breakfast room, the staff are not quite as friendly as the front desk staff but they do give you a smile and a welcome as you enter the room, other than that they are rushing around and you do feel a little pressured to eat and leave, but otherwise very clean and the food available is delicious.

Another low point to the hotel is it's location, it is a piece out from the centre but just outside the hotel is a bus stop where you catch the no.11 which makes many stops on its way to the station and to the centre so it's not that big a deal. You can also purchase bus tickets from the hotel which made it all so much easier!

On the whole the hotel is superb and would definitely stay again and highly recommend to others. Only word of advice I could give is when you book request a room on the top floor and be wary of the location as is a piece outside the centre.
