“Excellent hotel, restaurant and people. Makes Italy proud”
Reviewed 16 April 2012

I rarely write hotel reviews but one is truly due in this case. The hotel is very nice and is surrounded by a lovely park. It is very close to Verona centre and quite close to the airport. it is charming and clean and extremely peaceful. It is ideal if renting a car, which is recommended for Verona as it is quite easy to park close to the center (but only once you know where to go, and the staff were very helpful in suggesting the best option). The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful in everything actually and we enjoyed also the lovely food, which is both typically italian and innovative at the same time: a true sign of love for good food.
Parking is very easy and so is the access from the road which can be busy at rush hour. The owner and staff are delightful. In all our trips (which are a lot) we had plenty of pleasant experiences, but only once we felt a similar combination of taste and hospitality. Excellent indeed.

If you are planning to stay anywhere near Verona and you have yet to book a hotel room, look no further. Hotel Elefante is an absolutely lovely, charming little boutique hotel just on the outskirts of Verona with a calm, rustic atmosphere, excellent food and service and comfortable rooms.

Location: we arrived to Verona by train and the taxi ride to the hotel was 12 EUR. Elefante is located on the ouskirts of Verona in a rural setting, and there is actually a bus stop right in front of the Hotel which will take you to the city centre. The bus tickets are quite reasonable and the ride only takes about 10 minutes. Getting back to the hotel with a bus, unfortunately, is simply impossible due to the ingenious way the bus transport system is organized in Italy. The busses leave Verona on a different highway, away from the hotel. Fortunately, the taxi ride from the city centre to the hotel is only 10-15 EUR.

Rooms: we got the most charming room on the top floor of the main building. It had lovely old furniture, air conditioning, comfortable bed and nice big comfy chairs. LCD television and wifi internet were also available for no extra cost. The main building is absolutely charming and has a very elegant boutique hotel feel to it. The territory is big: there is a park and other smaller buildings scattered around the main building.

Service: when we arrived to the hotel, we were quiet hungry and politely asked if we could have something to eat, just maybe some bread and cheese. The "Segnora" asked us to wait a bit, we sat down in the garden and in 15 minutes we received a trolley filled with all a hungry person could ever wish: different types of cheese, sausage, bread, tomato, salad, a special type of local delicacy marmelade, wine, and to top it off, house-made cake with grappa. We ate dinner every evening in the hotel, and the food is exactly what you would expect from a perfect local hotel: rustic, simple and delicious with some of the ingredients coming straight from the hotel's garden. You will get well looked after in this hotel. The breakfast was equally good with a variety of food available, better than you will get in most Italian hotels with typically very light breakfasts.

Prices: we got an absolutely fantastic offer for this hotel and we spent quite a bit extra for the food (lunch and dinner). But considering the prices in the city centre we still spent less, got excellent service and had a taste of real Italian home cooking. It doesn't get any better than this.

Conclusion: the atmosphere of the hotel, the surrounding park, the friendly warm service, the air-conditioned room, excellent food and the peacocks running in the garden (yes, peacocks!) makes you feel like you are in a 5-star hotel. Our stay in Elefante was like a mini-vacation of its own and we treasured every minute of it. We would go back to Italy just to stay there once again.

Room Tip: Try to eat as much as possible in the hotel's little resturant, to experience true Italian hospi...

The location on the GPS was way off so map it as a backup. The location is just off the Strada Bresciana after you pass the canal, in a farm setting.Probably was the main house at one time. It's not modern but it was reasonbly priced and the food was excellent; breakfast and dinner.

They had a group of peacocks whom you could tell immediately were part owners of the property.

The owners/staff were very friendly and gave us some good advice on how to enjoy Verona.

Room Tip: The road in front is well traveled. Try to get a room facing rear of property.

The hotel is located on the edge of Verona in a park-like setting with plenty of parking. The room was very nice, with wonderful furniture. We were warmly greeted and the the staff was friendly and helpful at all times. The restaurant was excellent and we had a delightful meal. We would have liked to stay longer but we had a ship to catch in Venice. The desk clerks were very helpful in giving directions to Verona, where to park and what to see. Be VERY careful when driving close to the walled city, one wrong turn and you will find yourself in the walled city, not where you want to be.

This hotel was just a found-by-chance stop-over on our way (self with wife and dog) by car from Germany to Turkey ... but we loved it and decided to spend another whole day there. We were given a chalet which was super comfortable and of course ideal for our dog, who could lie out on the veranda. Owners are super-charming if a little eccentric. Communication (we have no Italian) was handsandfeet, but it seemed to work. Food was wonderful but you have to take what comes. For us it was a lovely experience and we hope to return again and again.

The hotel is perfectly located between the city and the lake. We enjoyed the accommodations and particularly enjoyed the food. Ask about the specially prepared smoked meat ("affumicato"). The best we've ever tried! Very friendly and professional service. Definitely a place we will return to and recommend to anyone going to Verona.

This hotel is outside of the city limits of Verona. We had a car so commuting was easy. It is also on a bus route. It is more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel. We stayed in a quaint cottage that had a sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. It was clean and decorated tastefully. The restaurant was excellent and had the best meal that I ate in Verona and I ate plenty! Breakfast was good and plentiful. Please note that the restaurant was closed on a Saturday night so don't plan your meal there. Also know that there is air conditioning but it is in the sitting room and you have leave the bedroom door open, but it cooled nicely for early September weather. This is a good location and I would recommend to anyone and stay there again and again.

Room Tip: I would choose a cottage if given the choice. Quiet and front door parking.
