“Nice hotel -- Rude Staff!”
Reviewed 3 July 2006

I stayed at the Hotel Europa for one night in June as part of a two week trip to Italy with my husband and two teenage daughters. We were very surprised by the reception we received from the man working at the front desk when we arrived. He never cracked a smile, never said a friendly greeting and was just plain rude. He simply stared at us for a long time as did the young woman working with him while he processed our paperwork. I have never encountered someone so rude in the hotel industry anywhere in the world.

A short time later, after we had settled in our room and went downstairs, we asked him for a restaurant recommendation for dinner. He recommended one place and marked it on the map. When my husband asked him for a second recommendation so that we might have a choice, he icily asked something like "Was my first recommendation not good enough for you?" At that point, we just left and ended up having a delicious dinner at Du de Cope in Verona, which was highly recommended in one of our guidebooks.

On the positive side, the hotel is in a good location close to the Arena and major sights. We booked two double rooms which were spacious and clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast room was also quite nice and the breakfast was good.

The location and value of this hotel are first class. BUT...

The two gentlemen who work at the front desk (daytime staff) should not be in hospitality industry. They were extremely rude and unhelpful. They looked and acted like they could care less if you stayed with them or not. Total jerks.

(Note: Nighttime staff man was pleasant)

As for the hotel itself, I would definitely recommend it. It is very convienent to the Arena and the shopping areas. Also, some very nice restaurants are very close by.

I would not recommend having a rental car, as we did. The hotel is not very easy to find as it is in the city centre and the Italians do not sign their streets very well.

If you are looking for value and convienence, the Hotel Europa is it. Just do not expect ANYTHING from the daytime staff.

My boyfriend and I had just had a long train journey from Bergamo in the sweltering heat of june and had decided to just find somewhere when we arrived in verona. We had been into a few hotels on the main street leading to Piazza Bra, but al were very expensive (what you'd expect though), the only cheaper one that we found was terrible (over the road from Europa) so we decided to take our chances with Europa thinking (by the looks of it) that it would be really expensive - what a pleasant surprise!
It was approx. £60 for one night including breakfast.
The whole hotel was immaculate and the staff were very professional.
Our room was small, but fine for two people; we had an en-suite shower/bathroom, fantastic and much needed air conditioning and electric blinds - we couldn't believe how lucky we had been!
Even better was the loction; we were literally just round the corner from the ampitheatre/piazza bra.
We ahd a lovely night and couldn't have asked for a better hotel.

HOTEL EUROPA wondfully situated for the shops,ARENAandgeneral sight
seeing. It,s rooms were basic with on suite bathroom and aircondition, the
breakfast room was clean with agood choice of cereals
The ARENA was terrific, andthe production and settings for the opera
AIDA out of this world.
We had a great time with plenty of reasonably priced restaurants and
bars to pick from.
We will go again and recommend the whole experience.

Verona was the end of our trip and what we wished for in our last hotel stay was a nice proper double bed, comfortable room, good service, great location and a reasonable breakfast. We just wanted these, keeping in mind that we were picking a 3 star hotel.

Well we hit the jackpot in Verona. What a lovely city and every bit as much fun to visit as Venice. The hotel was in a fantastic location right near the Arena, we got our first proper double bed in Italy....comfortable bed too, the service was heads and heels above any we had received on our trip and it was a good breakfast. Not great by our standards in the Southern Hempisphere but the best we had had in 4 prior hotels in France and Italy.

Overall if you visit this lovely city and want to stay in a comfortable, reasonably cheap hotel in a great location, pick this one. Nothing was too much trouble for the fellas on the front desk and we really enjoyed our stay there. Good luck
