Imagine the roar of the crowds, the heat, the roar of the lions as they are released and you have encapsulated the feeling of the Arena in days of yore!! Nowadays, depending on how much you want to pay, you can choose your seats to enjoy an opera. Well worth spending a euro for two of you to listen on the telephone/video to hear the history if you are not on a conducted tour. If you want to avoid the tour groups then get there soon after opening time. Check the programme before visiting, it is sometimes closed for rehearsals, even out of opera season, as concerts are held there. If you want to hear the concert, but are not fussy about seeing the artistes then enjoy a meal in the piazza and hear the music without paying!!
Pity the toilets were not in use, saw lots of people trying the doors!! Getting to the highest seats is not for the faint hearted but you can enjoy the atmosphere from lower down!
