Having booked almost a year in advance, we were in the second row of the arena to see Carmen performed at the beginning of the 2014 opera season. The arena is a simply amazing setting for an opera, performed in the warmth of an Italian summer evening beneath an open sky that gently slips from day to dusk and on into night.

In truth we felt that Michaela stole the show from Carmen on the night, but all in all it was a magical performance in a superb venue that we felt very fortunate to have experienced.

You can enter the arena during the day and see it. We found out it is totally a waste of time. the is no much to see there.

I don't know if it was the wind on this night or all the tourists that spoke, sang along! and ate, but on those unnumbered seats it was hard to hear the opera. So next time I will definitely pay up and get closer. But otherwise a magic night in the Arena.

I went there several times to watch operas. The location is simply stunning and the representations inside the Arena are something unique. Inside in fact is really well preserved and the acustic is great. One reccomandation is for you to bring a small pillow to sit on the steps. They are in fact made of marble and it might get unconfortable after 2-3 hours.

Watched Madama Butterfly on a warm, Saturday evening - from the 6th row. A wonderful experience. Hope to come back one day!
