“Expensive cup of tea!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2014

I like a cup of tea, but not at £2.60p per small cup. This hotel has no tea making facilities in room. Mini bar fridge only had bottled water on sale at twice the price outside. The staff make this hotel what it is. Well spoken and understood English. Although very near to railway station, you could not hear the trains. Bit of a 20/30 minute walk to old town. If you like a bath, then not for you. At breakfast you could get an omelette freshly made, which makes a difference to the bread, cakes and cheese.

Choose this hotel as we needed to stay in hotel in Bari with secure parking and not many hotels seem to have private parking. Although the location was a little surprising given the name of the hotel it did not cause any problems during our stay, and the old town was only a short walk away. Our room was very spacious and the restaurant was very good, with a fixed price menu which was very good value. The bar was not always staffed, as waiters in restaurant seem to look after the bar when not serving in the restaurant. As conferences were taking place during our stay the hotel was very busy. The grounds were very nice and well maintained.

I stay in many many hotels but this one was poor which I was very suprised at due to it being a Mercure Hotel.

ROOM
Lovely big Superior Room
ROOMS ARE NOT SOUND-PROOFED as stated in their room description, you can clearly hear the people above and below you talking, walking around (tiled floors) and you can even hear when the guest above you flush their toilet!!

No tea & coffee making facility in the room, for a 4-star hotel that should be standard!

Dirty bath towel on the towel rail

SPA
We really booked this hotel because of the SPA, that is the only reason, sadly we were told the spa is only open after 4.30pm which is annoying as most hotel spa's open from 10am - 10pm.
The Spa floor was REALLY REALLY FILTHY, you can see it had not been cleaned for ages, we had to use the shower head to wash it away.
The Jacuzzi did not work, reported it (rang 3 times) but no-one arrived until 45mins later. We only booked the hotel because it had a spa.

FOOD
Food was nice but expensive only a la carte or sandwiches no ordinary food options so we ate out after day one. Restaurant and bar was too busy and noisy with conference people not a relaxing atmosphere. Eat at local restaurants the food is AMAZING and VERY CHEAP with a bottle of wine, soft drinks and 2 courses you can pay €25 per couple, in contrast in the hotel we paid €55 euro and only had coca cola and 2 courses.

BAR & LOUNGE
Service at the bar is terrible, hard to get anyone for ages as there is not enough staff. If there is a private function there service is even worse.
The lounge area was ALWAYS NOISY with either a private event or business people.

CLEANERS
Cleaners were EXTREMELY NOISY, slamming doors and laughing and shouting from 8am-11am in the morning. We had to complain and were told now is not the time to sleep, strange I thought I was on holiday and have paid for my room so why shouldn't I sleep if I want to!!!

SWIMMING POOL
We had planned to lay by the pool and chill out but the Swimming pool was near the car park and walk way so not relaxing, it was covered by trees so the pool was not clean. We were charged 2 euro each to launder the towels. Spa and pool towels are free in most hotels.

Too many conference people walking around and being noisy so not relaxing and quiet.

Wouldn't recommend here if you want to relax.

Staff on the from desk were helpful except the rude man on the phone regarding the cleaners.

Room Tip: Book A superior room but ask for one AWAY from the train line, it's not terrible but you can hea...

If you are on business this is well located place to lay your head in Bari. The service is pretty average. The gym sauna and other facilities either closed or unusable. The food in the restaurant is unremarkable - yet the breakfast is pretty good.
The service at the bar is also fairly non committal and closes promptly when the staff shift ends.
Dont think about lying in bed in the morning as the cleaning staff will get you moving with corridor long conversations, rattling and knocking every door as soon as THEY are ready to clean.

The hotel is flooded with suited smoking males who are attending conferences during the week. The attention of all staff is typically diverted to serve these people. If you are not one of them you will need to patient.

If you are here on business the hotel is properly functional and does the job. However do not fool yourself into thinking that you could also stay here for a couple of days break. and enjoy the (sunless) ice bath that they call a pool. Unless you are the type to be up every morning and out exploring in a hire car - don't bother. You would be far better advised to do your business here then relocate to another hotel for pleasure.

One final point. Front desk staff could do a with a course in customer service. Whatever it is they are doing - it is far more important that serving or helping customers.

I really wanted to give an overall rating of 3.5 for this hotel. As mentioned by another reviewer, its location is not great, but on the other hand, it's only a 10 min walk from the central station, and since Bari is more of a hub than a destination, that's reasonably handy for going on excursions.
This hotel received good reviews from both Lonely Planet and Trip Advisor, and I suspect you won't do much better in Bari. However, it is rather characterless while trying to be chic. Rooms are spacious, if a little drab. We stayed three nights before moving on to Lecce, and then returned for our final night. The first room we were given was an odd shape, almost semicircular, with an IKEA wardrobe stuck in the middle of the floor and a balcony/terrace, so vast it could have easily hosted a party for 50+ people. Part of one of the 4 miles of curtain covering the huge windows became detached on our last day, but the hotel was completely unable to fix it, even though all that was was a stepladder. However, they did offer us an alternative room (which we declined). On our return, we were upgraded to the Imperial Suite, which turned out to be rather larger than our own house. I thought this was a very nice gesture. Interestingly, I managed quite spectacularly to destroy another curtain arrangement here...
Staff mainly very helpful and friendly. Nice terrace on which to eat breakfast if the weather is good. Breakfast itself however, was fairly uninspiring, except for the excellent coffee and a competent egg chef. If you could ever find him that is . Very chaotic one morning, otherwise fine.
We ate twice in the restaurant, and I would highly recommend the fixed-price Puglian menu (€29, including wine and water). The food was good, if not great, but afine intro to the local cuisine. Second occasion I had a fillet of beef. Unimaginative accompaniments, but the quality of the meat was superb. Bar area is pleasant enough, and the Prosecco is outstanding!
All in all, it'll do as a hotel without being anything special.

The hotel itself is nice and very comfortable. However, the photos do not include the actual hotel. They promote the building behind the actual hotel which is on the grounds. There was no water in the pool. I do not think they should advertise something that cannot be utilized. The Junior Suite was a good value for the money. We did not have any complaints about our service or accomadations.

While this hotel is not in the best location (busy avenue on the side of a pretty large railroad yard), it is a great place -- our room was very big, with a view to the rail and we could not hear a sound from the trains going by. The property itself is gorgeous, very well-maintained. The breakfast was simply awesome -- the level of service, the quality of the food (fresh southern Italy tomatoes from the vine, anyone?) was outstanding and the staff was very helpful to us (in their sometimes off-putting Italian way, if I must say so).

Truly, we don't have a complaint. Add to that the on-site parking that was plenty and easy to get in and out of. I'd stay here again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for one of the larger rooms. They have a few that we saw which are very small, sin...
