“Inside view of Italy”

We recently stayed a week at this lovely agritourismo (farmstay) near Brindisi & had a true taste of local life. Situated between 2 small towns yet only 20 minutes to Brindisi airport, the historical fortified farmhouse featured a small museum & church which uncovered ancient frescoes under layers of paintwork. There is a large pool, horses should you want to ride, a dining room & terrace for meals & is a wonderful environment for families. The charming & hospitable Mariateresa, her husband Vittoriano & family made every effort to look after us, feed us delicious home grown food, give us local information with sightseeing suggestions & history of the area. Definitely a pleasurable experience to be enjoyed by both families & couples!

Room Tip: Rooms are simple & spacious furnished with some antiques, a barfridge, screens & large bathr...

Imagine, you open your eyes and its all blue - the sky above and the large pool in front of you. Lemon, orange, palm and olive trees surround you - cactus fruits, grapes covering middle age walls.

Imagine, angels called Marilena and Mariateresa read your lips (even if your mother tongue is not Italian). Enjoying authentic Italian cuisine prepared with homegrown ingredients, antipasti, pasta, fish, seafood and veal and accompanied with fine local vines (Primitivo, Negroamaro) at a terrace in-midst of a remote paradise.

Imagine, you escape paradise for a day to find sandy beaches, to explore a white town named Ostuni on top of a hill overlooking the sea, to see a Seria A football game at Bari or Lecce, to utilize the free WLAN for a virtual trip in between of a dive into the pool or ...

There are two ways to learn about a culture, a lifestyle, a philosophy, a family, its tradition and more than anything about yourself: to read or to experience! Incantalupi offers an Encyclopedia of almost 400 years of beauty, hospitality, chapel, farming, piracy, cardinals ... go experience it!

By far the loveliest place we've been to in Italy. The calm and enchanting garden full of trees and fruits makes me feel like I'm in a piece of the garden of Eden. The ancient church hidden in the heart of the masseria, with colorful frescoes, the medieval tower that can be seen from far away, and the large stables, make it a "château". The everblue swimming pool, deep sofas, massage tables, 8 meter high ceilings make it a luxurious spa. Marielena and Mariateresa make it a warm cosy and friendly place where I want to go back to. In fact it really embodies the new deal we are looking for: less time spent on marketing, lots of heart and time spent on quality. And it's all 10 mn away from the beaches and amazing historical site.

We stayed at Incantalupi in late september when families had left. In fact we were the only ones there! However, the welcome and daily service couldn't be friendlier. We had one very tasty (we believe Puglia has the best food in all of Italy) and big meal there but felt guilty that the cook had to come in just for us. After that meal we ate our big meals at lunch and had snacks in the evening. Our room was hugh and very well appointed - really exqusite. Fiding the maseria can be a bit of a challenge (the building is about a km from the nearest state road). Our Garmin GPS became totally confused. Use the Maseria's directions. Ask to see the family museum.

Masseria Incantalupi is a wonderful working Masseria that stables 30 horses. Our 2-1/2 half year old had so much fun, was taken for tours of the stables and went from being afraid of horses to feeding the horses apples by hand within a week.

The service which was provided mostly by relatives of the owners was exceptional and consistent.

The rooms are air conditioned, cleaned daily and it was nice to come home from a full day of at the beach or visiting all the sites.

The genuine warmth of the welcome we received went beyond the call of duty, our 2-1/2 year old cried upon leaving. Italians are known to be family and child friendly but this was really exceptional service.

We stayed 2 weeks and we really left feeling like we got our money's worth, truly great value for money.

Masseria Incantalupi is centrally located for day trips to Lecci, Gallipoli and Bari.

Many thanks to Marietheresa and Marielena for making us feel so welcome.

We will be back in Puglia for a long weekend and in the summer of 2009 and we will definitely be staying at Incantalupi.

Thanks to everyone at Incantalupi for making our summer holiday so enjoyable.

You do not need to be a wolf ( the hotel's name means wolf-enchanter) to fall for the pervasive charm of this ancient masseria- or farmhouse- set in its own estate of 140 hectares .Puglia is in the heel of Italy, a region of beautiful countryside: olives, vines, oranges and fruit trees of all varieties. From the masseria, both the Adriatic and Ionian seas are within half an hour.

Incantalupi has 9 rooms (more properly suites- 5 of them are of family size): comfortable, large, laid-back, with the vaulted star ceilings in stone characteristic of the area and period furniture. The hotel opened 2 years ago, after the owning family had renovated their farmhouse buildings with simple elegance. ( We came across it- ben trovato - by chance on the internet). It opens all year round; there are fireplaces in the rooms.

The lay-out is quasi-monastic or collegiate. You take your aperitif surveying a quad, including its own chapel and small museum, before ( if you want ) tackling an excellent no-choice cena della casa. There is a good-sized, but understated, swimming pool set in one of three exquisite walled gardens. Guests can take out horses from the estate's stables for riding or trotting. You can do everything or nothing- no pressure at all in this most endearing of settings; our 9 days passed in a warm glow.

All of this may seem pretty much run-of-the-mill top-end italian stufl. What marks out Incantalupi is the sheer graciousness and unostentatious style. To resort completely to cliche, you genuinely are made to feel a friend of the family. We certainly felt so from the moment we were met by Maria- Teresa, who with her sister-in-law is discreetly omnipresent, and her husband at the airport. Their true and deep sense of hospitality is of a rare order.

A few minutes out of St. Vito de Normanni, within comfortable driving distance of stately towns such as Ceglie Messapica, Oria or Lecce, the masseria is well-placed. By italian standards, the prices are fairly reasonable( Puglia is much less exorbitant than Tuscany or the Amalfi Coast or Liguria). And the Masseria, all in all, represents real value. If you fancy an idyll with the pre-lapsarian allure of Masseria Incantalupi, fly into Brindisi Airport ( 15 minutes away) , shake free from the rigours of Ryanair, and prepare to enjoy yourself.
