Stayed for just one night in May, had apartment on top floor overlooking the courtyard so nice and quiet. Friendly front desk. Left for airport early following morning so can't really comment on the facilities but price was very cheap so would consider it very good value.

We just got home from a wonderful week in Sardinia, Alghero.

We stayed at Picale as a package deal from our travel agent. We were positively surprised by both the service and cleanliness in hotel's area.

The apartment was moderate in size and could do with an renovation, but it gives a different cozy holiday atmosphere anyway. One should expect that the whole thing is quite worn out but still usable.

The living room / kitchen consists of a sofa bed, a foldable table and 3 dining chairs. There is a small cabinet containing various kitchen utensils such as plates, cups and glasses. The tv is placed on this cabinet. There is a lot of closet space in both the living room and the bedroom.
The kitchen area is almost impossible to use. We certainly didn't wish to cook here hence the lack of counter space. The gas stove constantly went out :( The little fridge, however, can hold everything cooled down so we always had coooold water! There are the cookware, you need - quite worn out but still usable. We did however miss a toaster of some kind.

The bedroom consists of a double bed with plenty of closet space, a narrow wall-mounted table with a chair (like dining chairs) and drawers. There is a lovely large window opening out to the terrace.

The living room opens out to the terrace with a corresponding lovely view of both the beach / sea view from one end and the pool from the other. There is both a table, a few chairs and drying rack. The size is approx. 7 sqm large. Just a shame that it was so elongated. We had the evening sun, so we could sunbath after 4 pm. It is a nice place to sit and enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine while the children are sleeping.

It is hard to here the other guests in the other apartments. Both the apartment upstairs and next door were occupied but the only time I heard someone was the upstairs neighbors on the terrace.

There is a pool. Not so child-friendly, but if the children can swim it's fine . Otherwise the beach is located just on the other side of the road. The beach is fine. However, there are many sellers but they are not so aggressive that it is annoying, though.

We were visiting out of season, so the bar or coffee shop was not open, but there are several restaurants and cafés close by.

There are beach toys (right by the pool) and umbrellas (at the reception) you can borrow, so you do not have to carry a lot with you or invest in it. Very smart :) Although I think that it leftovers from former visitors.

There are many stairs and steps, so I do not think it is ideal for families with small children. We stayed in apartment no. 24 and had to carry the stroller up and down all the time. Luckily it was just a small stroller, but it made to be a nuisance.

The apartment complex is located approx. 10 min. from the center and it is a lovely walk into town. We would, though, not mind it being a smaller distance.

The reason for the overall assessment only got 3 is because the apartments are so undated and worn. It does not take much to make it a lot better, so they just get started ...

Room Tip: Trys to contact them in advance and ask for an apartment with a sea view otherwise, our apartment wa...

We booked stay for one week there this august / september 2013. Were met by a pleasent front desk person. Than it was just downhill. The room was terrible. Dirty. Balcony next to the road, in the same hight, that people did go. The bed was not possible to sleep on. Only positive is the closeness to the beach. Never again. Had to move to a much more expencive hotel, day 2.

We had an excellent holiday stay here, close to the town, afew minutes walk from the nearest beach and a short bus ride away to some less busy and more remote beaches. A supermarket just afew minutes walk away enables easy access to reasonably priced food and alcohol. Very little noise from other apartments. Excellent customer service, really did help us out on numerous occasions, very accommodating and genuinely wanting you to enjoy your stay. Apartment itself was reasonably priced and functional.

I stayed in Picale in Alghero last Sept
Alghero is beautiful and well worth a visit but I wouldn't recommend staying in Picale.
Firstly it's too far out of town. It's at least a 20 minute walk and in the heat of the day that's alot.
The aparments are fine but even tho it's right in front of the beach they don't have a seaview (even though we were told we would have) that is unless you stand up, lean out of the balcony and turn your head to look towards the sea!!! The sound proofing is non existent so when our neighbours bell went it would wake us up!
The place seems to operate under the "Ryanair" type model. The initial price seems low but they then then charge extra for everything! We got badly bitten by mosquitos on the first night when we had balcony doors open so had to pay (€45 a week) for the air con so we could sleep, they charge for internet (no wifi), charge for cot (€40) and even try and charge for a change of towels!!! After 4 days I asked if we could have more loo roll and towels and was told to buy the loo roll and to pay extra for towels. They is also a charge for security box. Not great service.
Also it's not suitable for young children is that there's a long flight of stairs to gain entry that you have to carry buggy up and down. There is no life guard at the pool and it shuts at 5:30pm for some bizarre reason!
I know a lot of people say it's in a good location because it's across from the beach but it's not the nicest stretch of beach in Alghero by a long shot. If you continue up the road for about 5-10 min cycle you come to Mario Pia which is far nicer. Also the choice of restaruants near Picale is very poor when compared to the town so we ended up travelling in and out of town to eat most nights. If I were to go back again to Alghero, i would stay close to the old town and cycle to the beach during the day. I certainly wouldn't stay at Picale!

Room Tip: A very small no of rooms face towards the sea. We asked for one and were told we'd get one but d...

We first stayed at the Picale 9 years ago and were impressed with the studio apartment's decor and its location. We booked it last minute as we got an excellent price on flights with Ryanair (£67 return each!). The rooms are just as nice (although Sardinians don't seem to have heard of kettles, toasters or microwaves). However, one copes with saucepans............

The worst thing about the apartment was the bed, very hard and uncomfortable with pillows like sacks of spuds...........

Be careful when you book because there are plenty of extras i.e. the car park is 45 Euros a week (even though you are a guest there), air conditioning is 6 Euros a day, the safety deposit box is 10 Euros a week.........bear in mind that this is situated in the reception which means you can't access it when the reception is closed so be careful of this (Reception open 8.30am -2.30 and 4.30pm -8.30pm). Checkout is very early (10 am) and if you can get a late checkout it is another 45 Euros. You can use the facilities at the Picale if you can't get a late checkout but the shower is locked and only accessible during reception opening hours........you will also have to pay 2.5 Euros if you want to use you dirty room towels........

Location is very good for the beach, no problems there.

The swimming pool is also good and well maintained/clean - It does have a lot of shade so that may suit some people better than full sun all day.

The buses to the town are a bit random and to get back in evening by taxi means another 9 -10 Euros, There are some restaurants nearby however so we only went up to town twice in the 7 days we were there.

All in all, nice apartment, good location but not a cheap holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool because there are plenty overlooking the road or just other apar...
