“A perfect holiday”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

We've just returned from a wonderful week at Monte Sixeri and felt compelled to write my first trip advisor review. This is a beautiful destination, we had a fabulous stay and couldnt fault anything. The accommodation was clean and well equipped, very spacious and comfortable. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and really contributed to the enjoyment of our holiday. The children were made to feel very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed being shown round the farm and meeting the animals with Alberto and Giovanni. I wouldnt hesitate in recommending Monte Sixeri and we're already looking forward to our next stay!

Room Tip: The staff advised us which room would be most suitable and their advice was spot on. The plans on th...

We stayed at one of the apartments in the Residenze and almost had the pool to ourselves some days, as well as the barbecue. Very comfortable and well-appointed upstairs apartment with everything we needed, including air-con. Very friendly and helpful staff throughout. The restaurant was great; delicious food and very reasonable considering the amount we ate! Location is brilliant, close enough to the airport for speed and convenience but far enough away that we scarcely saw or heard a plane! Lovely walking around the farm, seeing the pigs, goats, donkeys and chickens as well as the olives and vines. Beautiful countryside close to several gorgeous beaches and near to Alghero for the markets, buildings and sights. We'll be back; a week is not long enough!

We first stayed in the Residenze or the lower part of the farm 2 years ago with our 3 children. We loved the location and the friendliness of the place and Antonella fantastic. Alghero airport is very easy to get in and out of, baggage claim is quick, car hire is right beside arrivals/departures, none of the hassle of a larger airport which makes such a difference. Monte Sixeri is 10 minutes from the airport which is great.
This year we returned and stayed in the Borgo. Our apartment was lovely, very well equipped and I was especially relieved to see the stairgate at the top of the stairs as our children aren't used to stairs. Antonella and her team were very obliging and just as nice as the first time. The little shop is an excellent addition, we ate in the restaurant twice and both times found the food to be excellent. We'll be back again, Alghero was also even nicer, there are some lovely restaurants and a nice buzz about the place and it's not tacky touristy.

Apartments are good, clean and well equipped. Unfortunately the walls are thin and therefore you hear neighbour sound well.
Great staff, good food and both Alghero and beaches are nearby. Airport only 10 minutes away. This was our second visit.

As soon as we arrived, we realised that this place was not your average tourist trap. Our flight had been delayed, and we didn't get to the Podere until nine at night. Antonella, the lovely, friendly, polyglot and incredibly efficient manager showed us to our villina up the hill, and while we settled in, made sure that the restaurant stayed open for us. Not a problem: the guys there were as friendly as Antonella, and even though we were the only people in the place at that hour, they took pleasure in cooking to order and explaining the local dishes of which they are justifiably proud.
Everything served is grown/reared on the estate, and we were lucky enough to be adopted by the farmworkers (inquisitive, outgoing kids help). On Good Friday, they invited us to their workers' lunch, eaten in the sunshine among the farm buildings, with pasta, fish, ricotta and honey, wine and grappa. Our twelve-year-old son Daniel, a carnivore but not a Catholic, wondered where the meat course was; come back for lunch on Wednesday, they said. But first you have to help kill what you're going to eat. So from seven to twelve on the Tuesday, he learned to take responsibility for his meat-eating....they've got pictures of him in a butcher's apron and holding large knives on their website.
You don't have to get down and dirty, of course; Sardinians come from miles around to eat the Podere's suckling pig and never hear a squeal. The anecdote is simply to show how willing these wonderful people are to share their lives with interested guests.
The accommodation is simply but comfortably furnished, spotlessly clean and well equipped. The swimming pools would be very inviting in summer, but only our children dared them at Easter.
A car is essential if you want to visit the beautiful region around: Alghero itself (15 minutes), Bosa, the north-west, the mountains inland...
The holiday was not budget, but very good value for money. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Go up the hill; the accommodation at the bottom naturally has less impressive views.

We stayed in one of the two-bed apartments in the first week of June last year (2011). The weather was pretty bad all week, but the apartment was lovely and comfortable and allowed us a comfortable base from which to chase the sun around the island.

The manageress was great, the location close enough to Alghero but far enough away to feel away from it all. The views were fantastic, a lovely pool if a little chilly.

We really do like Alghero as a destination - great vibe to the town with some very good restaurants, very good public beach and it's a great base for exploring the north and west of the island.

My tiniest criticism would be that you don't get a clean during the week - not that I was really that fussed. But for near on £1000 for the week out of season, it would have been nice to just have some spray disinfectant to clean the loo - with a 4 year old son, pretty essential! I just ended up using my hand sanitiser on a piece of loo roll!

But that really is the smallest thing and it certainly wouldn't stop us from returning!

Me and my girlfriend stayed in the one bedroomed apartment for one week in September 2011. The apartment was perfect for two and the shared pool was only 3m away.
The estate has its own restaurant which serves beautiful food, most of which comes from the working farm. We had the suckling pig and potatoes from the restaurant and it was one of the nicest meals we have ever had. For breakfast the friendly farm workers supplied us with free eggs, which was nice.
Lovely grounds to walk in and see all the animals on the farm. The views from the top of the estate are very nice. The pool is great and never busy. The estate is very quiet, calm and relaxing.
If you want to venture off the estate you will need to rent a car. The woman who manages the appartments is very helpful and even gave us a lift to the airport to collect our hire car.
It was the first time I had driven abroad and it wasn't stressful at all. In a car it was 2mins to the supermarket, 10mins to the beach and 20mins to Alghero.
We really did have a wonderful holiday and will go back!
