Owner description: Tour this marine cave that is carved in a spectacular sheer cliff, with long winding passages that delve far into the rock passing many fantastical stalagmites and stalactites.

This was a great place to visit in a beautiful location. We went in April so it was not too hot and decided to hire a scooter and drive there from Alghero. This was a great option - it is not too far and you get to see more of the countryside. The 656 steps down to the cave were very manageable and are quite shallow and safe with plenty of places to stop for a rest if you need to. Our tour guide spoke very good English and gave us a great run-down of the history and geography of the caves. The caves themselves are beautiful and very atmospheric; hearing the sea crash against the cliffs outside was quite special when eveything else is so quiet and perfectly still inside. The boat was not running that day because the sea was too rough but I would still go for the scooter and stairs again.

Time your descent down the six hundred and something steps as if you just miss a tour you have to wait an hour for the next one!
The day we went down we arrived five minutes past the hour, the next tour would not take place for another 55 minutes, even though three tour guides were standing around waiting!!!

Neptune's Grotto is a wonderful sight, and rightly selected as the must-see attraction around Alghero. The multilingual guide was informative in the 30 minute tour of the cave. Give yourself plenty of time to get back to the surface afterwards, as the 654 steps can be quite tiring.

The main suggestion would be to get the bus to the cave, not the boat, as there is a good chance the seas will be too choppy for the boat to dock, and you'll go home disappointed.

Fancied a nice little boat trip to Neptune's Grotto. It didn't disappoint - but we weren't particularly expecting the rough seas. The highlight of this trip was actually getting off the boat in the grotto.
