We rode the bus out to Capo Caccia. It was easy and only about 25 minutes. We hiked down to the caves. The view on the hike is unbelievable. Really incredible and a super fun hike. I did it with my four kids aged 8 to 17. They all made it easily. The hike back up got a little sweat going, but we stopped to take in the view and watch the boats going by and that made it easy.

If you are in the area you must visit this attraction. We had a hire car so drove to the site. There is car parking available but limited so choice of time is crucial. It was E13 each to go in for a guided tour - the only type available. Guide was very knowledgeable and informative. There are spectacular views from the hundreds of steps down to the caves (grotto). It takes about 45 mins to complete the tour - numerous photo opportunities and fascinating caves. If you don't have a car then a boat trip to the entrance to the cave is an option. We watched a couple of the boats come in and it is a bit challenging getting on and off the boats via a moving platform - watching the guys leaping on and off the boats to set up the walkway was gripping I have to say what with the boats rocking on the waves underneath (turbulent due to the entrance to the cave). Well worth a visit indeed and there are other sites nearby too to make it even more worthwhile.

Accessible by boat from Alghero or take tour bus and descend and ascend the 650 or so steps. Worth a visit but may challenge those with walking difficulties.

Although I did not find Sardinia worth visiting Grotte di Nettune was a very interesting sight. If you happen to be in Sardinia, Grotte di Nettune is a must place to see. But if you are not there, no need to go to Sardinia just to see the Grotte.

we very much enjoyed the trip to the caverns, hopping on the "red bus" to the peninsular.
We chose to walk down the 650 steps around the cliff face, not too strenuous for able bodied persons, easy enough going down but obviously more strenuous coming back.
the caves can also be accessed by boat but quite a thrill embarking and boarding when there is a sea swell.
wandering around the caves takes about 40 minutes on a guided tour giving useful knowledge on the formation and age of the many stalagmites/tites, events past and present in the caves and generally worth the 13 Euro paid.
After the tour you can hop back on the red bus and either travel to Alghero or stop at other places.
Definitely not an attract for people with walking difficulties and young children , buggies etc.
