“Impressive Cave But Overpriced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2014

The cave is very impressive, but not that large. There are plenty of formations, but if you've been to Wookey Hole or Cheddar etc you'll be surprised by how short it is. The Majorcan Caves we visited were far more impressive. On the whole I thought the 13 euros for an Adult and 7 euros for children was a bit steep. A bit like the 654 steps down from the top of the cliff. I think this may have been the best bit and you could do it for free!

It is important to note that the tours leave on the hour from the bottom of the stairs, which take about 15 minutes to get down.

“Average caves with lots of people”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2014

They herd you in like cattle, and it is crowded in summer. If you have visited caves before, this is one to skip. Do visit the Capo caccia cliffs, though, they are worth it.

“Poor tour of caves, nice views on the walk down”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

I visited here in late July with my girlfriend. We drove up from Alghero which is an easy and well sign-posted drive. When you arrive there is a roundabout with parking for about 10 cars around it. There is no car park. You will just to have to turn back and park at the side of the road. We were there for about 9.15 so the crowds weren't big but when we came out cars were parked way down the road.

You walk down which was lovely. There are great views over the cliff face. It took maybe 10 minutes to stroll down. Be sure to time your visit to arrive just before the hour mark. There is a tour every hour in Italian and English. You can't visit the caves by yourself. About 10 minutes before the hour they start selling tickets. Then everyone lines up and they take everyone who is there on one tour.

The tour is poor. It is one guide who gives some information at various points in Italian and then gives a shorter heavily accented translation in English. Everyone walks in a line together to a the final lookout of the tour and then walks back.

The caves themselves were nice but nothing spectacular compared to caves you will encounter elsewhere in Europe.

The entry fee was 13e for adults and 7e for kids. You can avoid the steps by getting a boat trip directly to the cave. That docks about 10 yards from where the tour starts so you'd have no steps. If you don't fancy the 650+ steps take this option.

“The grotto is worth to visit in case it's first one of such kind you are visiting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

You may aproach the site in two major ways, either by boat from Alghero, or by car. If you don't like going by boat (for example, if sea is bumpy), you shall take into count that the access will require some physical strenght. Ascension after visiting caves might be especially exhausting in hot days.
