A fantastic place to relax with stunning views over the bay, staff especially those on reception extremely helpfull and full of usefull information, infact everyone in the hotel always greeted you cheerfully no matter what the time of day. The closeness (but not to close) to Alghero provided a chance to get into the Sardinian culture, the old quarter full of great shops, restaurants and places to sit and enjoy the world passing by. The Hotel offered excellent breakfasts, with most tastes catered for, we also enjoyed dinner on a couple of evenings, again the food was excellent. All in All a winning hotel and destination. A previous visit to Sardinia took us to The Costa Smerelda - a trip we never thought we would better, this was certainly equal to our previous trip and so different, Sardinia has so much to offer with its various scenery and culture.

My husband and I just spent a week at El Faro on the occasion of a friend's wedding. The hotel is in a great location, secluded and peaceful, and shows one of the most beautiful bays in Sardinia. It has immaculate rooms and swimming pool, excellent food, free wireless internet in the communal areas, and the most helpful staff one could hope for.

Reception officers Luca, Andrea and Elisabetta regularly went out of their way to help us with recommendations, bookings and directions; their English is very good. Restaurant/bar staff like Manuela and Franco are also very friendly and professional. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay and were sorry to leave. To top it all off, El Faro organised an excellent wedding reception for our friends, with great service and food.

The location is secluded and hiring a car is highly recommended, also to make the most of the nice beaches in the region. The hotel doesn't have a beach, and although the pool is very nice, it would be a realy shame to miss the many lovely bays within short driving distance. The place is wonderfully quiet; not the destination for those seeking lively night life or see-and-be-seen places. Prices of drinks and food are on the high end of the spectrum.

As an Italian living abroad and taking my husband to Sardinia for the first time, I felt very proud that El Faro helped show some of the best Italy has to offer.

We celebrated our honey moon in Sardegna, stayed at the El Faro hotel for 11 nights, and had a vacation to remember for a life time! Wonderful rooms, sweet and helpfull staff, a fantastic restaurant, and a perfect loaction made our visit to Sardegna and Alghero just amazing!

The hotel has a quiet and calming atmosphere, though with lots of offers and opportunities. A bus takes you to downtown Alghero in 30min, and if you want to rent a car, it can be delivered (and returned) at the hotel (makes things a little bit easier...). There is also hiking opportunities in the area, if you would like to do something else than just enjoying the sun or taking a bath in the crystal clear water.

Thank you once again to the team at El Faro. I stayed for 3 nights this time. Fabulous. My travelling companion had never been to Sardinia. Another fan who will return. The chef this year was amazing. We never saw him but would like to thank him for all his culinary skills. Brilliant. Everyone is so lovely and helpful. We saw one cleaner. There must be more as everything is spotlessly clean and just fabulous.

If you're looking for Sleek steel and glass decadence with hundreds of rooms and thousands of channels on a plasma screen TV, El Faro is not for you. Try Dubai. Calm tranquility in beautiful surroundings is, however, to be had here a plenty. The place is clean, the rooms comfortable and the view over the natural bay is simply a pleasure to wake up to. Having lived in Italy previously, this feels much more true to the Italian way than many Italian hotels I have stayed in; and that is meant in a good way.

We stayed for a week just before peak season which probably made things quieter than usual. The staff were exceedingly helpful, friendly yet professional without exception. Breakfast is good and although we only ate in the main restauraunt one night it was of high standard, well presented and professionally served. Well worth getting a table by the window to watch the sun go down over the cliffs.

The location is a little out of the way and I would strongly recommend renting a car. The payoff is that there are no immediate neighbours and the surrounding nature reserve is beautiful. Although there is a shuttle bus service to town (Alghero), the timing is restrictive. A trip to the local Agritourismo (meat and cheese fest on a colossal scale) is to be recommended, as is a road trip South on the coast road, heading inland after about an hour or so. The variety of the landscape is breathtaking.

The hotel was in good condition, but far from anything. The staff was nice, but not very helpful, and the dinner was over priced.

If you don't want to do anything but lay by the pool this is the perfect place. It's quiet and removed. However, if you want to spend time in the city, don't stay here. If you have a car it's a 25 minute drive into Alghero, if you take the bus it's a 40 minute bus ride.

I paid a 180Eur a night, and the bathroom only had a shower.

I'll be returning to Alghero, but not to the El Faro.
