The headline of this hotel is the building and it's location. Whilst most aspects of the accommodation are very good, there are opportunities to improve. No diet drinks available during our stay and the bar itself is inaccessible from the pool, having to walk all the way round the hotel and into the main reception to order drinks. Food and service otherwise very good.

We cannot recommend villas las Tronas enough-all the things said in other reviews about pristine gardens, immaculate upkeep of the place and great location close to alghero but still secluded are true. But mostly it is the staff that really stand out. Laura and a lovely gentleman at the reception who even tried to help my husband find his wedding band under gravel outside in the parking lot were just the best!! The pool area is very pretty as well. Definitely go for at least a terrace as nothing beats the view. In advance the hotel sent us advice on what to do and they could have just not been nicer. It is not cheap but we definitely felt that it was worth every cent.

Carlos V hotel is five star plus we have been here a week and wish that we were not returning to the UK tomorrow. The views are breathtaking, it is worth booking a suite fantastic accommodation with three balconys in an idyllic location. The hotel staff are excellent and very accommodating and we would recommend the restaurant albeit a little more atmosphere would be welcomed the food is excellent.

The old town of Alghero is stunning, traditional charm with many affordable quality restaurants and bars. We have fallen in love with this beautiful place and can't wait to return later on this year.

Room Tip: Fantastic suites from the third floor upwards very spacious and quiet.

Booked a week at Villa Las Tronas, actually still here and felt compelled to share our experience thus far. The property is simply stunning and all is as advertised, the pictures do not do the place justice. The rooms are well appointed and no matter whether you get a sea view or garden view it is all fantastic. Check in was a breeze and the property is close to the Alghero airport which makes transfers very efficient.
The hotel amenities are excellent, Spa includes a salt water indoor pool, sauna and turkish bath. Upon our arrival even though they were closing down we were allowed in to use the facilities, very accommodating staff. Whether indoors or out lounging by the pool the whole place is library quiet which is excellent for recharging and relaxing.
We dined at the restaurant last night, prices are very competitive with other places we checked out in town (which is a short walk from the hotel). The menu choices are good and quality of the food was excellent, also a good selection of local and imported wines. We always go local when traveling and both food and wine did not disappoint, fabulous.
Special mention to our server Giuseppe for making the stay excellent thus far. Overall we cannot wait to come back and we are still here... that should say it all.

My husband and I went here for our honeymoon. The grounds are beautifully kept and picturesque. The hotel itself is charming and clean. Breakfast is wonderful and the staff is incredibly friendly. The views are breathtaking. Your meals are severed in a dining area over looking the sea. The hotel is in walking distance of the town but still private.

We obviously haven't stayed at any other hotels in sardinia as this was our first time however this does seem like the most prominent hotel and seem unique from the others. It is in its own secluded area with the entrance to the hotel locked with a security gate.

We stayed 2 nights. Reception staff were nice, breakfast was good - hot breakfast ordered to your needs plus fruit, croissants, pastries, cakes, toast, cereal, cheese, etc. orange juice was fresh which we really liked.

Views from the hotel are lovely. A few different spots to sit and relax. Not the largest resort, in fact probably small and not that much to do, but for a relaxing break, it's great. We also played ping pong and used the spa facilities and gym. We used the indoor pool ( not the outdoor one) and it was nice, with the water warm.

It isn't close to the beach though in case that was a requirement, though there is a very small beach (very small) beside the hotel.

Room was ok, have experienced better in 5* but not bad at all. Location wise, it was about 10 minutes walk to the old town along the coast which was nice.

All in all, good hotel with good staff, though if you pay the rack rate, it may be quite expensive.

Very olde charm hotel, service is extremely good. We ate in the restaurant on a Saturday night and although there were not a lot of people there and it could have done with some Vivaldi playing in the background I had one of the best meals of my life and I have eaten in quite a few Michelin Starred restaurants. I could not read the wine menu due to low light and so asked the waiter to recommend some wine, he chose a local wine from a vineyard near the airport(only five miles away). Well, I was not expecting much but once again I was stunned at the quality of this wine which rounded off the food to become a memorable evening. I only flew in from London for the weekend for one night and would happily do so again. The other thing few people mention is the spa pool; it is actually a brine bath and you float on your back and could almost fall asleep since with only 25 rooms at the hotel you can experience real tranquility here as it does not get too busy and people are likely to talk to you as you are a very small community.

Room Tip: Bring your own bottled water, none provide free as expected.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Villa Las Tronas is the delightful 5-star hotel that has become the symbol of Alghero - “the Golden Door to tourism in Sardinia” - situated on the Riviera del Corallo on the north-west coast of the Island. The hotel rises from the sea-shore with its Spa, nestled in the greenery of nearly two hectares of park that separate it from the Alghero waterfront, on a headland surrounded on three sides by the crystal-clear water of the bay. Numerous quays invite you to sunbathe and swim in the most comfortable, private way. The view is spectacular and the atmosphere so intense and romantic as to steal the hearts of Italian Royalty, who chose the Villa up to the nineteen-forties for their holidays in Sardinia. The bar and panoramic restaurant are the ideal place to relax, while your gaze takes in the Bay of Alghero and rediscovers the timeless luxuriousness inherent in the unique features and character of the villa. The Hotel and the Spa – with its covered sea-water swimming-pool (also looking out over the Mediterranean), sauna, Turkish bath, Kneipp walkway, gym and the beauty area – are open all through the year. ... more   less
