Stayed at the hotel deliberately out of season so were expecting things to be a little slower in Alghero. The town itself is very charming and the views are amazing. We ate mostly at children-friendly places and would highly recommend Aragon and Paco's particularly.
The hotel itself is situated in a beautiful spot with its own grounds which are well worth exploring. By far the highlight for us was the spa with the most gorgeous indoor pool which although listed as 'saltwater' we did not find it to be any more bothersome than your average chlorinated water. Very pleasant in the evening with the underwater lighting that changes colours, our 2 year old absolutely loved it. Good size too.
We also sampled the treatments and found them to be excellent also, particularly the hot stone massage!
Considering we had a small child who loves to run around everywhere, we found the staff to be perfectly helpful and friendly. They were not pompous or stand-offish in anyway and in fact the opposite, lavishing our son with attention that often distracted him from important things, like eating his breakfast! We were ok with this though because he was on holiday too!
Breakfast was great with a large selection of fresh pastries, fruit, cheeses, meats and cakes. Plenty to start your day off and we were also pleasantly suprised to be offered cooked eggs and bacon each morning as well (which were delicious)....Stayed at the hotel deliberately out of season so were expecting things to be a little slower in Alghero. Now to the only downside for us, the room we booked was a double with balcony and seaview. It was smaller than we expected and for the price, had hoped for a much better bathroom with separate walk-in shower rather than a mixer tap over the bath. That aside, it was a lovely space and the housekeeping was superb.
What we found to be odd though was the balcony. What cannot be appreciated from the photos is that it is essentially a communal balcony, with the four double rooms sharing the same balcony separated only by a low rise wooden ballastraid. Not a problem particularly as the room next door was empty but I imagine in high season, when the rooms are even more expensive, this could be a real disappointment. I would advise the hotel to separate these properly with much more adequate screens. It became even more of a problem when the neighbours in the other rooms chose to smoke non-stop on their balconies. We had booked a non-smoking room and yet the room stank of smoke thanks to this. The staff however understood and moved us to a higher floor suite, which was very...More
