“Not 4*'s”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

So, let's start with a positive. The hotel is only a €25 taxi ride from the airport.

We checked in and the only information we were given was what time and where breakfast was.

There was no information given about the private beach which we later discovered excited from a family staying in the hotel. The sun loungers are free there and are €20 on the beach. The hotel are supposed to give you a ticket to present to the people running the beach which we weren't given.

The room we checked into was 720 and the shower head pointed inward towards the wall and it was like playing catch the drip as there was zero power to it. In addition the bath was filthy so you couldn't opt for a bath. By this point we had unpacked and I had to ask for a change of room. The staff were not apologetic in the slightest and I was told the mould around the bath was fine.

The shower in the new room went hot and cold which is the last thing you want after a day at the beach. It was also not very powerful.

The location of the hotel is perfect as it's only a twenty mins walk to the private beach (there are twice daily shuttle bus') and the town and port is only a couple of mins walk away.

The breakfast was nice and the view over the port was stunning.

The rooms were cleaned and fresh towels provided daily which was great.

Toilet paper was not replenished by the cleaning staff so we had to source our own.

I thought the rooms were very basic and there was only one plug socket!

Overall this is a three star hotel at best.

The hotel is a 4 star hotel but according to my measurements deserves only 3 stars. Very old and uncomfortable bathroom, stinking corridors and insufficient elevators. The staff were not helpful either.

Room Tip: I do not know about the other rooms.

I stayed here for three nights in a lovely bright room on the 6th floor. The bathroom was fine, shower was a little too hot and hard to regulate but plenty of pressure. Bed fab and good linen. The breakfast is laid out in the sky bar on the 9th floor and the view is really stunning. Breakfast is plentiful and includes hot food if you fancy it. Stick to the pastries though as they are the nicest I have ever tasted in a hotel, especially the pain au chocolat. All the staff I spoke to were very friendly and efficient. Alghero is lovely and very atmospheric in the evening. The main beach is ok but definitely has a whiff of something now and again! I went to the beach further up the coast which was lovely. Alghero has cute little parks but they do need a bit of tending to I think. The bus to Bosa is a lovely ride.

One week stay with small children and everything worked much to our satisfaction.
Great location and present facilities were nice. Of course bare in mind the lack of swimming pool, training gym and other recreational facilities.
Room quality was good with room safe, amenities etc and confortable furnituring.
There was however a problem with watersupply in the hotel which caused one day without hot water for the shower, and the day after with brownish water. I hope it was an extreme isolated event but I have to mention it as it caused quite a few problems.
Noise level from other rooms was the lowest I have experienced in any hotel, just great.
Wifi was free for us, but the connection kept logging us in and out uncontrollably withour pads.

What really made the days was the catering staff in the halfboard restaurant and bars. Truly wonderful genuine professionals each and every one, very attentive and always catering to your needs.

Breakfast up on the ninth floor was a bless each time.

This hotel is perfectly located in Alghero, only a few minutes walk to the old town and the marina. The rooftop bar is also great offering beautiful sunsets overlooking Alghero, they are a little slow on the service if busy up there.

The room was clean and comfortable but the air conditioning not so good, in fact we changed rooms and the hotel upgraded us (thank-you) but unfortunately the air con was no better.

The breakfasts were very good, the wifi great and the staff very obliging and friendly. A supermarket just across the road, so everything very close.

The swimming beaches are better out of town but you can bus or walk, approximately 3kms away. Just watch out for the purple jellyfish, they can sting you, nothing too serious though.

My husband and I flew today and arrived at this hotel. We have a junior sea view suite on the 8th floor. We are only staying until Monday but the room is brilliant. We overlook the harbour which is magnificent. The reception staff we met when we arrived from stansted airport were very welcoming. It took us one minutes walk to the harbour where we walked along and then we sat beside the harbour at a bar/cafe and watched the world go by in the sunshine. I was very pleased with our room and am writing this sitting out on our balcony looking at the lovely view and thinking how lucky we are. Will update re food and places to go etc later.

We just spend a week in Hotel Catalunya and really enjoyed it. The location is superb, close to the old town and just a few minutes walk. Staff is very nice and caring and the Blu bar on the 9th floor is superb for a pre-dinner drink. The view is amazing and the bar-tender is very nice and competent. We will go back to this hotel when we visit Alghero again!
