This hotel is a small family run hotel close to the beach in Alghero, Sardinia. It was a very quiet hotel, there is no entertainment, no childrens club and no noisey music. Which we loved. The staff are all so friendly and pleasent. My son did complain that there was no WiFi, but for me a week away from computers was bliss.I have read on TA that people complained about the food, for me the food was very good, it was an A la carte menu selected at breakfast, the food was pleasent and well presented, for my wife and son who are both vegetarian, the choice was not too good. The main course was Omlette every night. Breakfast time is continental style but was okay.

People need to understand they are not staying in the Ritz. Stop complaining about trivia.

We never had a problem getting a sun lounger around the pool and it was always quiet
The hotel is a Thomson hotel and it must be one of the smallest they use. The hotel choice in Sardinia is not massive.

The beach by the hotel was clean and the sea was beautiful, the beach is not groomed like they are in Spain. Which did mean there were lots of sea grass washed up on the sand. The snorkelling was good if you swam out to the rocks of the beach. The sea is very safe to swim in.

In the evening we went into the old town of Alghero, this is well worth a visit and not to be missed.

We did two trips one to Neptunes cave by boat, the caves were amazing. and the other was a day trip to the National Park of Asinara. This was well worth the money and we were so glad we did this. We did this excursion as a last minute outing as our thomson trip was cancelled due to lack of people.

We also did the Red Bus tour around Alghero, this was interesting as you are given headsets to listen to the commentary as they drive you around.

All I can say is we loved Sardinia and cannot understand why it not more popular with us Brits. Maybe the Italians like it that way.

Would we go back? Maybe. We would defiantely go back if there were flights from our local airport rather than drive all the way to Gatwick. For a two hour flight.

.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and have a room with a balcony.

The Hotel Riviera is a lovely little hotel. We stayed in a room with a balcony and had a view of the sea (also buildings) and our room was on the 2nd of the 3 floors making it easier to get downstairs than a bigger hotel. The waiters were friendly and everyone there spoke Italian and English (maybe more). The lady who runs the hotel brings her cute little dog called 'Rio' and he livens up the evenings in the bar. The evening food is sometimes a poor selection for vegetarians, but the chef will change anything if you ask. Air conditioning in the room was amazing which was welcome because of the heat! Overall a nice family run hotel right by the beach and the harbour.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms are nice.

We had read some negative reviews after booking which worried us but found these to be largely unfounded. The location is great, just by the beach, the rooms and public areas are all perfectly clean. The double rooms have king-sized beds and our room had a balcony & sea view. The pool was great, perfectly clean and set among trees. We only stayed on a B&B basis but often ate lunch at the hotel and found the food really nice and definitely the best value in the area. The family & other staff were really friendly. At least half the guests were Italian, which has to be a good sign. In fact we ate at the 4-star San Marco Hotel down the road and found the staff less friendly, the food average, all the guests international and the atmosphere soulless. Only two of the gripes from previous reviews of the Riviera are true: the self-service coffee machine used at breakfast is really awful. It tastes of anything but coffee and it's true that you don't expect to have the worst coffee you've ever tasted in Italy. They have a perfectly good coffee machine in the bar so they need to allow this to be used for the restaurant as well. It's also true that you need insect repellant. I was bitten to death for the first time in over 10 years.

The hotel has a very good location close to a (relatively) uncrowded part of beach and with walking distance (15-20 minutes) to old town. Clear calm water at beach. Very nice view from our balcony on 3rd floor facing beach. Very serviceminded staff. Nice pool area. Good breakfast.
Only one suggestion- it would have been nice to be able to fix your own coffe/ tea in the room.
Bring mosquito repellant (of course not specifically for this hotel)

Room Tip: If you want a nice view facing sea ask for a room on 3rd (highest) floor.

Just returned from a week at the hotel and found the staff very helpful and efficient. The food was of a very good standard with a fine selection on all three courses.Rooms and main areas were spotless and the pool area very well laid out .Family were always available and ate the same meals in the same restaurant as every one else.A nice 20 min stroll along a palm lined walk by the sea to the beautiful town of Alghero which was even more alive at night.

First, confusion, Expedia show a Hotel Riviera in Alghero which is NOT this one, I suspect all the photographs are of a different hotel.
The Alghero is well situated within walking distance of the very interesting town and also a superb beach which is far better than the one 100 yards from Hotel.A bus stop is also nearby,
The single room was not large, but quite large enough for one person and had a balcony with side view of the sea. The swimming pool is large for a 3 Star Hotel and well equiped with sunbeds.
Sardinian food regional and the Riviera meals are representative of the area and very good, the wine list is very restricted but reasonably priced, €15 a bottle max.
Like most hotels the Riviera has its quirks, no WiFi ( although I found 2 bars with the facility 5 min walk away) and as other have remarked shampoo etc.is not replenished so take some.
The English owner is a charming lady with an Italian family around her.The staff appeared to be cleaning non-stop, everything was spotless.
The whole experience was delightful and so much more enjoyable than some large impersonal establishment, as a single traveller I found everyone, staff & fellow guests very friendly. .

Room Tip: Some people may find the rooms overlooking the pool, with no balconies a little quieter although I pr...

We've just returned from a week at the Hotel Riviera. From the offset we were welcomed & made to feel at home. The staff are extremely efficient & friendly,& continually aim to please. We had three choices of starter & main course each evening & the food was very good & varied to suit all tastes. We did feel that 8.00pm was a tad late though & some background music in the dining room would have added to the ambience somewhat.Breakfast was substantial with a choice of cereals, cold meats, yoghurts, breads & fruit. We did have a couple of wet days where it became necessary to have lunch at the hotel & again we were given many choices. If you get a chance, take the big red bus tour as the scenery is wonderful & the trip was delightful. If we went there again,we would hire a car so as to explore the other areas.

Room Tip: A balcony is very useful to have
