We stayed hear for new year. The hotel it self could do with updating decor rise but it was clean and had all the facilities you needed. The staff were friendly and breakfast was okay.

About 20mins walk to the centre but it is a nice walk and you did feel safe walking around the nighbourhood at night.

All in all not too bad and would consider staying here again.

Booked this hotel at the last minute from a very limited range - many hotels not open till April. Agree with much of what has been written - it is clean, rooms medium in size, staff helpful and most speak some English.

The walk downhill into town via coast road gives stunning views - takes 20 minutes to reach this pretty town with an historic old section and nice harbour. But its quiet with not a lot to do - especially out of season though no frills airlines do bring lots of visitors. You need to get used to the odd opening times of the shops and restaurants. Some great ice cream shops.

We had booked for 2 nights - but returned for an additional night after our flight home was cancelled at the last minute. Second stay in a larger room with one double and one single bed.

OK for a weekend - or as a base for a longer holiday if you hire a car to travel around.

Booked last minute flights for a weekend away and this hotel has served its purpose. Clean and in a reasonable location, it could certainly do with a bit of a makeover but otherwise perfectly functional accommodation. I’d agree with other comments that the hotel is hardly 4*, disregard the pool if this is a primary incentive as it is used by school kids during the day and the noise if you’re on the back of the hotel is disturbing. I tried to use it this morning and there was scaffold erected in the water!

Breakfast is good as a starter until you find your feet (and find something better!), a trivial point but the coffee is entirely undrinkable or we may have just got unlucky.

Location wise it is probably a 20minute walk into town, we had a car but opted to walk as parking in Alghero is complicated and another couples had their car towed away having bought what they thought was sufficient parking time.

Reception is exceptionally friendly and if your Italian is poor then their English is very good.

Alghero itself is fantastic, if you do rent a car take a trip inland, the scenery is truly spectacular on the round trip from Alghero through Monteleone Rocca Doria to Bosa. Utterly blown away by the views, picture postcard quaint villages and a fantastic drive.

The reason they call this Green Sporting Club is that groups of kids come here and stay over night and then compete in swimming competitions the following day, so really who wants to use the pool when you’ve got limited access and the kids have done god knows what in there! The first few mornings at breakfast were fine then came 3 mornings of coming down to breakfast to find that instead of fresh orange juice we had to have radioactive orange juice out of a machine which has zero vitamin C. It was a case of survival of the fittest to get into the scrum and get some breakfast before it all went, as for tea cups, bowls, spoons, milk and cereal well you will just have to nag one of the two staff they have working on a morning to cope with the rush. The hotel was fine until the kids turned up!

As for car parking, it is free although there is only about 10 spaces, if people didn’t space them out so much then there would be 12 spaces if not you have to park on the road outside. My dad is registered disabled as he is terminally ill and we have a disabled parking pass but don’t think you can get a parking space as the Italians think they own the carpark and have arguments with you. Also there is only 1 lift and its way too small! The hotel is too far out of town to walk for someone if they are ill, but the one good thing is that you can get free car parking near the marina in Alghero, but you might nearly get smashed up on the way through the town as the Italians drive up the wrong way on a one way street!

I stayed in a single room and therefore paid a single supplement, as is always the case if you are a single traveller, I paid nearly as much as my parents did who had a double room. But my parents room was twice the size of mine and they had a balcony, which looked onto the carpark and in the distance you could see the sea. My room just looked onto the residential apartments with their washing hanging out and was very dark and claustrophobic, but at least I couldn’t hear the traffic from the road and at least I got a double bed. The room was clean enough they changed towels everyday and cleaned your shower plug hole as the showers are little plastic telephone boxes and if you’re not careful the water overflows and floods the room! As for the door to your room they are a nightmare make sure you haven’t got suncream or handcream on your hands as you will never be able to open them. The doors are not made for weaklings you have to turn the key to the right and keep it held there and turn the handle to the right at the same time, so put down your shopping as you’ll never manage it!

This is the second time we have stayed at the Green Hotel and the second time that we have been well looked after. We arrived to spend five days here before heading to Cagliari in the south.

The Hotel
Clean and spacious rooms offering basic but adequate accommodation. The staff are very friendly, always greeting you with a smile. There is a small bar with snacks available and a restaurant (which we didn't use ourselves). The pool is also open to the public and is covered if you want to escape the midday sun.

Alghero
A beautiful town which was heaving with Italian tourists in July. It is about 20 minutes walk from the hotel to the town, beach and port. There is plenty on offer in Alghero from history to amazing fish restaurants along the Catalan walls, over looking the sea.

The beach is very clean with turquoise waters and miles of golden sands. It is well worth taking a boat trip to Neptune’s Grotto from Alghero port too.

Beyond Alghero
Car hire is a great idea when staying in Sardinia! Porte Conte is a short drive, a beautiful bay with small beaches scattered around. See it for yourself! On the northern part of the island is Stintino which is amazing. Although busy, the waters here must be one of the clearest in the world.

Heading south along the west coast is the old town of Bosa (about an hours drive) which is also worth a visit.

Alghero is also good for accessing some lovely places along the north coast if your are prepared to drive.

Airport
Transfers from Fertilia (Alghero) airport to the centre are simple by bus, but when returning, do not head to departures too early, there is no restaurant/bar facilities the other side of passport control.

If you haven't been to Sardinia before, then a strong recommendation is to go there. People say it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. They are right. Enjoy!

A hotel worth considering if you are looking for something clean and reasonably convenient.

Negotiate your own accommodation deal. Buffet breakfast was included, 7am - 10am daily

Flight arrived from Stanstead late at night so we opted for a taxi to hotel for €25.

Shared triple room with bathroom. We had our own private deck and an airconditioner that may have needed an overhaul (or replaced) to survive summer. House keeping was great and obliging (with extra blankets and assistance with difficult locks)

Walk to the Old Town Centre was approx 20 minutes.
Bus stop outside hotel was convenient, hourly departures or more frequently in the mornings. The bus route from the hotel passes the airport and costs €0.70.

Dining room: Available for lunch at 1pm and dinner at 8pm. €15 per person per meal.

Indoor swimming pool on site was used for public lessons and swimming clubs. We never quite worked out when we could use it. Caps Must be worn in the pool and can be purchased in the lobby.

A rental car would have been useful for visiting other areas on the island.
We felt that even if we had a car we would not have used it for driving in and around the city as parking was at a premium and parking wardens were plentiful.

One computer was available for internet connections; 15 minutes for €1.

The staff members were friendly and helpful. There always seemed to be one English-speaking person on duty.

We'd like to have been able to give this hotel three and a half. It was better than average but not so much better that we considered it 'above average'.

We spent one night here in December 2005. It was very quiet (only 3-4 rooms were occupied). The room was pretty basic. Food was OK. More like a 3* rather than a 4*. Staff were friendly.
