This B and B was almost too good to be true. Perched right at the edge of the sea, in the bustling historic center of Alghero, the flat is airy and well appointed. Through the windows you can hear the waves lapping, take in the sumptuous view and wonder how you got so lucky. There is a cute, fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with brand new shower. This is a flat with two available rooms, the green room and the blue room, the blue being the larger of the two.
Elide, the host, is absolutely perfect. A lexicon of local information, she is also so intuitive and detail oriented, not to mention very sweet. For breakfast in addition to teas, biscuit toast things, yogurts, and fruit (plump peaches for us), these delicious dainty parfaits and puddings would appear that Elide made herself!! Could it get anymore charming? Fresh towels would appear every other day, which included beach towels. I asked about an iron, and one has appeared when I returned. I asked for a second set of keys so my friend and I could do our own thing one night and she has a second set made. Amazing! I would have taken a hovel and felt stoked with the value and perfect location, but on top of that to get clean, hip and above and beyond accommodating is unbelievable!
Speaking of location, descending the stairs and stepping out the door you are greeted by a bevy of options. There are gelaterias, restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries, and ample shopping in the form of grocery and other commodity stores, as well as regional specialty stores hawking locally made red coral jewelry, ceramics, sheep milk soap, shoes, cheeses, and wine etc. You can also take your pick of beautiful nearby beaches. History abounds with the 16th century Torre dell’ Espero Reial aka Torre Sulis nicknamed for a 18th century patriot turned prisoner Vincenzo Sulis who spent 21 years there right outside the door. Also right there at Piazza Sulis begins the lungomare, or seafront promenade, where you can take a refreshing passeggiata along the sea among the tinkering bars and bancarelle. Overall a great town, a perfect location and accommodation, and an immaculate host.
