“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed 14 July 2012

We had an excellent stay at The Hotel La Playa. We too would like to reiterate the previous reviews. When you see the chef (and Salvatore) picking the fresh herbs from their garden in preparation for dinner you know you're in for a treat. This Hotel is a little oasis. Our pool view room was basic but clean and bed was comfortable. The beach is only 50 meters away but does get busy. Loved Alghero with it's narrow cobbled streets and bustling night life. The Sotgiu family are very warm friendly and hospitable. We did try a couple of other restaurants but nothing came close to the hotel delights. Breakfast is good too. A couple of days car hire is well worth considering and we found the country roads very quite. Would love to return.

Just returned from Alghero after a week staying at the La Playa Hotel. I can only reiterate the previous reviewers. If you want a family run hotel in a quiet location, then this is the place. We were woken up every morning to bird song and blue skies. The food in the hotel was excellent and the staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. Although the rooms were quite simple they were clean and well maintained with clean towels every day. Pay a little extra for pool view room. The beaches at the end of the road are organised and some incur charges. If, however, you turn right on the beach front road and walk further out of town for about 10 minutes to the hospital, there is a pine forest with paths through to an amazing local beach with brilliant sands and clear blue water.

Room Tip: Always make sure you have a pool view room as some rooms face residential street.

Just returned from a wonderful week in this charming small family run hotel. It is situated yards from beach, about twenty minutes walk to old town(10 euro in taxi). The hotel is spotless, rooms basic but good size,a great pool and food to die for freshly cooked every day.The management comprising of Salvatore and his two sisters (including the cat) run the show, they were extremely friendly and hospitable. We were full board ,not usually our style but due to reduced mobility this turned out to be the highlight of the stay enjoying freshly prepared lunch of our choice each day at very reasonable rates followed by an even more delicious dinner in evening. We would recommend this hotel for all the above reasons and hope to return soon again.

Room Tip: Try to choose a room facing the pool, they all have balconies

Stayed here in 2009 for a week. Lovely little hotel -clean, spacious, good pool.
The management and staff were extremely friendly.
It is a 20 minute walk to the town.
Would definitely recommend.

This was our last hotel stay in Sardinia and we absolutely loved it.

We had a lovely room overlooking the pool, and thought the staff (including the cat) were extremely cheerful and hospitable.

The highlight of course was the food. We dined in the restaurant EVERY night which isn't usually our style - but the food, service and pleasant ambiance made it very difficult to venture elsewhere. I still can't decide if I preferred the 'normal' Lasagne or the Vegeterian version. The food was just incredible!!

There is only one thing that would prevent me from returning, and that is that its kind of at the wrong end of Alghero. However, it was no hardship walking 20 or so minutes to the old town.

Room Tip: Eat in the restaurant and request a room with a pool view.

The hotel La Playa was really relaxing. the staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room was very clean as was the whole hotel. We overlooked the pool, slightly more money but worth it.
The chef in the hotel was amazing, we used to watch him pick the fresh herbs for the evening meal.
The hotel was well placed. 100 yards from a sandy beach and 15-20 mins walk to the Old Town.
I would thoroughly recommend a stay here, but if you want to explore the island hire a car. Buses were fine but a wee bit erratic!

My husband and I have just returned from a delectable 2 weeks stay at the Hotel La Playa in Sardinia.
I have never written a review before for Trip Advisor, but we had such a good experience that I felt compelled to do so.
We are so glad we upgraded before the holiday to half board at an extra €20 per day, the meal for which we could either take at lunchtime or in the evening. I have never experienced such good food and often had all our 3 meals a day there, so delicious it all was. Breakfast was continental, but the chefs made sure fresh scrambled eggs were on to make the difference every day.
Italy is generally very expensive to eat, so we felt we got good value at this hotel. We could have easily have paid double outside the hotel each, and for a far less delicious meal.
Salvatore, one of the owners, runs a tight ship, and ensures all his staff are aligned to delighting the customers. He could be seen early in the morning going out and buying fresh produce to supply the excellent chefs. He also makes an amazing banana flambé for a supplement, which is well worth the experience to watch and learn and taste. He is a great host.
The chefs , waiters and owners could be seen collecting fresh herbs and bananas from the garden just half an hour before the evening meals.
The fountain and lights were turned on around the pool at about 6.30pm and the light music turned on to create a very romantic, relaxing atmosphere.
The staff were all wonderful - so welcoming and attentive, with great sense of humour. We believe you get back what you give, and sometimes if things were communicated a bit in black and white it was only because of language translations. We soon overcame that by getting by in a little bit of Italian, which was so appreciated.
The rooms were exceptionally clean and linen was changed daily.
This is definitely a place we will return to. We met lots of good friends on our stay, younger, our age , and older, and they may all be fed up with me for sharing what should maybe have been kept asour little secret.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the pool side.
