We are just home from Alghero and Hotel La Playa ( May 23 -May 30 2013). We were very impressed with the the Hotel. It exuded understated professionalism. The management and staff provided a real service and had a superior attention to detail. The food was of a very high standard. We went B&B with a view to eating out in Old Town but only ate out twice and felt the hotel dinner was not surpassed for quality or service. There was excellent chat among the guests and this was an added bonus. The hotel has a nice pool, lovely garden and is proximate to the lovely white sandy beach which unfortunately was not , as yet cleaned of seaweed ( austerity in Alghero ?). We heard the hotel has a 70% return rate and we can understand why. A very nice experience and thank you Trip Advisor for helping us pick Hotel La Playa.

Room Tip: We had a room looking out onto pool and garden and it was excellent.

We stayed at this hotel for a second visit last June. We love it. Efficiently run by Salvatore and his two sisters who man the Reception area, take the bookings etc. No they are not unfriendly, maybe a little reserved but we found them charming, real characters, who want all of their guests to have a good time. They will supply pool towels and gladly get you a drink from the small bar area. (Good selection of books here to borrow).
The whole hotel is immaculate and well-run. Rooms cleaned thoroughly, towels and linens perfect, gardens and pool beautiful, a peaceful oasis.
The food is fantastic, especially the dinners, highly recommend the half-board option which is good value. And the wine list is amazing, Salvatore really knows his wine and it is very good value too.
Yes as a previous reviewer stated, the pool is closed in the evening, this is because the dinner tables are set in the gardens overlooking the pool, fine dining, linens, service, nice music, overall a charming place to dine. I certainly would not want children or adults jumping in and out of the pool and making a rowdy noise at this time!

Probably is a hotel best suited to couples and older people rather than young families with children.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms are best but the ones at the back are cheaper and interesting if you like to sit on balcony and view the street theatre !

The attention to detail and customer service are better than you can dream of. La Playa is a unique family run hotel just two minutes walk from the best beaches in Alghero. The care and attention to detail demonstrated here are not often found and a hotel could not be cleaner or more well looked after than La Playa. The pool and environs are beautiful, and the quality of food served and service second to none. Should be four star rated. Will definitely go back soon!

I came here for a week in August with my Mum and son as my Mum had holidayed at this hotel 10 years ago and wanted to return as she'd liked it so much. Unfortunately the hotel and Alghero have changed since she was here.
The hotel itself is a lovely quiet oasis set in pretty gardens away from the busy streets and packed beach. The pool area is also lovely.
The food is amazing at lunchtime and in the evening but breakfast is average.
The restaurant staff are very friendly and would arrange for the chef to cook alternative food not on the menu for my son.
The reception staff and cleaners are not very friendly and almost treat you as a hinderance. There is no bar open in the afternoons at the hotel so you need to go to reception to order drinks and you are really made to feel like you're bothering them!
Alghero is an Italian holiday destination and in the hotel and cafes and shops in Alghero, British people don't seem that welcome and Italians definitely receive preferential service.
Alghero old town is beautiful and there are lots of nice cafes, restaurants and gelatarias! The harbour area is also lovely and I'd recommed taking one of the boat trips.
The hotel is clean and simple and the rooms are cleaned and towels changed everyday. Unfortunately the shower didn't work very well and we were also without a working toilet for the last three days of holiday which is unacceptable!!
The reception staff didn't seem bothered and said they'd called a mechanic to fix it but it still didn't work. When we reported it again they just said it had been fixed and wouldn't come up so that I could show them that it didn't work.
If we weren't told that it would be fixed everyday I would have asked to have moved rooms.
Ten years ago Alghero was very quiet but now the beach is packed with sunloungers and it's very commercialised.
We went in August when it's very hot and all the Italians are on holiday so it was very busy so I'd recommend going when it's quieter and cooler.
The great food, lovely pool area, peaceful location and friendly restaurant staff are the best things about this hotel. We stayed in a pool view room with a balcony which was really nice so make sure you request one of these as the other side of the hotel overlooks a busy road.
Also booking direct with the hotel is much cheaper than going with a holiday company.

Room Tip: Choose a pool view room as the other side of the hotel overlooks a busy road

Quiet hotel with well kept pretty gardens. I would say the best feature of the hotel is the dining experience. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and the food and service here is second to none.
Our room was spotless and serviced daily. Air conditioning was quiet, shower was good and linnen crisp and white. There is a good powerful hairdryer in the bathroom. Electric sockets are behind bedside tables.
There's no English TV so we were glad we took laptop and dvds. They have wifi for 1 euro an hour.
They do pretty pink non alcholic cocktails for kids, ask Franca.
Will go back again in June when it's a bit cooler.

Room Tip: Overlooking pool or garden is best as overlooking road is noisy. Drivers beep their car horns a lot here.
