We stayed at Alma di Alghero Hotel from 25th June - 29th June 2014. It was fabulous, the staff were extremely helpful and polite. The location was perfect. The old village is about 20 minute walk away, but it's all flat and beautiful along the beach so the walk is easy. Breakfast was lovely too. We would highly recommend it!

My partner and I spent ages deliberating where to stay in the North western area of Sardinia and settled on the Alghero central location rather than a) out of town or b) a resort type hotel. This decision I would say was a good one and the location of Alma is pretty good....10mins from the old town when sober and fresh and about 30 mins when tipsy and tired. Perfect. Location gets 5 stars.

Slightly setback from the beach; no problem if you're room 201, 301, 401 as you have a balcony facing in the right direction (other rooms either side get sea view too). We asked for room 301 based on some advice on here; and got it. 401 look dubious; it is on the same floor as the breakfast room so unless you're an early riser I would avoid. Saying that; walls are pretty sound proof from what we experienced (peace and quiet).

Rooms: to seems like half are in the old stye and half new style; new style sold as deluxe...we went for Deluxe and as far as the room goes it is a 3* plus/borderline 4....usual over priced mini bar but we stocked with our own drinks and they didn't mind. Personally I think the L'Occitane products in the bathroom were just topped up with something cheaper.....the give away is that the packaging says it is shower cream, and the shampoo says with shea butter.....neither were cream based so a bit of false advertising there. It may be they use another L'Occitane product in them but for me it is poor attention to detail. Most people who opt for UK 4 star hotels I am sure would spot this. Beds was very comfortable and super king size at least. Air con was questionable; we left it on 21 degrees a couple of nights and the temp gauge didn't get the room below 24. But no major drama as wasn't too hot. Deluxe rooms were nice and very comfortable, clean and spacious. Maid was always very friendly; we tipped well with left over beer!!!

Wifi.....now, we were on holiday so no huge dependancy on it and I had been given a strict coal media and email ban!!! But we did want to check out a few restaurants online.....Wifi is intermittent and unreliable at best....if you need regular access to the internet then don't rely on theirs. It was frustrating purely on the basis this is supposed to be 3-4 star and wifi is a very basic request these days.

Breakfast: low three star/high 2. Not great. The fruit selection was good but as with a lot of continental breakfasts in european '4 stars' the food quality is questionable. There was plenty but it wasn't good enough for me to want seconds. The staff in the breakfast room seemed pleasant enough initially but within a couple of days it was quite obvious that they were not specifically trained in customer services and we ended up describing them as moody! They were not helpful or engaging.

Reception staff; no faults, all very helpful and pleasant.....Simone ( I think that was her name) kindly booked us a Restaurant one evening and was very friendly and importantly smiley.....the breakfast staff could learn a thing or two from her.

No issues with late arrival (we arrived at 1am) and late departure; we were given a courtesy room to shower and storage for our bags on the last day.

Roof top Pool; Ace. Was never that busy. Private, quiet, amazing views. Wish we had spent a little more time here as was very relaxing.

Ample free parking

30 mtrs from the beach.

The feeling of lots of privacy. Calm hotel.

As with most european holidays we knew it would differ from the UK's version of 4* but it was never a real issue and we had the most wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: 301, sea facing and quiet.

Dear Karla,
Thank you for writing a review on Hotel Alma di Alghero and we're glad you enjoyed: the location, the sea view, the cleanliness, the staff and the availability of Simona.
The products we use in the bathrooms of our rooms are L'Occitane, the dispensers are changed with new bottles when they end and never recycled.
We will also treasure of his criticisms that we hope can help us to improve our service.

Dear Klaus,

Our pool is on the 5th floor and in Alghero there's always a bit of wind, that's why we can't have beach umbrella, it is a safety issue, but all our sun chairs have the sunshade.

50 yards from the beach 10 minutes walk from the old town. Found the hotel very efficient, extremely clean, with very friendly staff and excellent pool and facilities. Breakfast was a lovely buffet where where the only minor fault would be the need for a tweaking of the coffee service. A few pots of brewed coffee would make the service flow better. Thats a minor inconvenience as the spread is lovely and the setting is really nice outside overlooking the beach. Asked for taxis on two occasions to be reserved by reception and was done so expeditely. Check in and check out also smooth and welcoming. The room we got had a lovely balcony and we slept very well in the spacious room. There is a good gym and a nice television room downstairs. Overall the staff could not do enough for us and this is a very well run hotel in an excellent location to explore the beautiful town of alghero.
