Love, love, love this place... it's rumored to be the largest indoor food market in Italy and a must see for any visitors to the South of Sardinia.
Upstairs is full of fruit, veg, cheeses, hams, bread and meat and I always spend a fortune and come away with bags overflowing with pecorino, wild boar prosciutto, courgette flowers and yellow peaches. Downstairs is where the fun really begins... the freshest fish and seafood you'll ever find and it seems every stall holder is a showman, ready to wear a swordfish head as a mask, pose for photos or shake a live octopus or two in your direction.
Visit it early in your holiday so you have plenty of time to cook all those gorgeous ingredients... it's too heartbreaking to go and not be able to buy it all because you're leaving the next day! It's closed on Sundays, the fish section is almost empty on Mondays but every other day it's lively and fun. Try to get there by 10am at the latest to get the freshest produce. And don't forget to bring your camera!
