“Fresh produce”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 May 2014

An enclosed market on two levels. Downstairs fish, upstairs meat and veg. Certainly a lot of fresh produce although most stalls seem to sell the same things over and over. Didnt find a huge variety or difference in product which I think was what we were really looking for. The sellers were all very friendly even when confronted with our laughably bad italian. Definitely somewhere to go for fresh stuff and quite enjoyed wandering and looking.

“The freshest of fresh and the largest selection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2013

For a city of 120,000, this market has more variety of meat, fish, bakery, vegetables, cheese and fruit then I have ever seen. There are larger markets like in Toranto but no where have I seen fresher fish. If you want to cook for yourself in a rented apartment this is a must stop which you can get to from the Marina district on the number 30 bus. Wonderful way to start your day like many Sardos as you will not find many tourists. Go and enjoy the fun of shopping and the glory of being a foody.

“Cagliari exciting destination for a culinary vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 April 2013

The San Benedetto Market is the largest indoor food market in Italy. I went every day for a week before the daily cooking class to buy the ingredients necessary for the meal. If you like seafood and fish this market is the best place to go. Meat, hams, prosciutto, all kind of bread, pecorino cheese, fruit, veg... I discovered the market thanks to the tour guide Michela Mura and www.tourguidesardinia.com

“A Must for Foodies”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2012

Love, love, love this place... it's rumored to be the largest indoor food market in Italy and a must see for any visitors to the South of Sardinia.

Upstairs is full of fruit, veg, cheeses, hams, bread and meat and I always spend a fortune and come away with bags overflowing with pecorino, wild boar prosciutto, courgette flowers and yellow peaches. Downstairs is where the fun really begins... the freshest fish and seafood you'll ever find and it seems every stall holder is a showman, ready to wear a swordfish head as a mask, pose for photos or shake a live octopus or two in your direction.

Visit it early in your holiday so you have plenty of time to cook all those gorgeous ingredients... it's too heartbreaking to go and not be able to buy it all because you're leaving the next day! It's closed on Sundays, the fish section is almost empty on Mondays but every other day it's lively and fun. Try to get there by 10am at the latest to get the freshest produce. And don't forget to bring your camera!
