Mini amazing break

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 May 2017via mobile
It is was our first time visiting Italy, and it has been short but sweet. From the reception welcoming us, to the restaurant being amazing. It just made the short break Great. The food was spectacular, the flavour was there and the fish, words can't describe how great the fish was. The chef came outside and made sure the food was great, and just made us feel at home. The staff is so friendly and any questions they answered to there best ability. The hotel is a great hotel. It not to far from the centre it roughly 10/15min walk and the beach is just a bus journey away.

Would recommend this hotel to my friends 🤗

I decided I wanted to come and stay here for my Birthday. I had heard Sardinia was lovely and picturesque.
Olbia is a lovely area, however, we did think of getting a car as we were here three days and would have benefitted from exploring further afield.

The hotel is lovely! I don't think it's new but it is modern and has good facilities. Cookies were a little over cooked at check in but a minor glitch in a lovely stay.

I went to the Wellness Centre on my birthday for a manicure and the lady didn't speak much English but we got around that. Some of the treatments are a little pricey and although she did a good job... I did expect a little better finished product.

We ate in the restaurant all three nights and I think we ate nearly everything on the menu. The wait staff are exceptional and very accommodating. As the menu is in Italian, our waiter Barhdyl (apologies if that is spelt incorrectly) made suggestions and explained each item.
The first night I had Grilled Tuna and it was so fresh and delicious and served with Spinach. The second night I had the perfectly cooked Fillet Steak with mouthwatering spinach and the third night I had Sardinian pasta with bolognese sauce. Desserts each night as well and my favourite was the semifredo!

The same waiter served us every night along with a young waiter called Sergio. They were the biggest part of why we chose to eat in the restaurant each night as they were so accommodating, they remembered what we liked to drink and somehow knew what we'd like to eat. They are a credit to this hotel!

Thank you DT Olbia for a fantastic Birthday Trip. We will definitely be back to explore the island more!

Have stayed in hundreds of Hilton hotels worldwide, and quite unimpressed with this one. See below for my view on positives and negatives to staying here:

Positives:
- Rooms were modern and of good size with all expected facilities
- Good rate for the time of year
- Only a short (10 minute) walk into the centre of Olbia
- Free Parking
- Fast WiFi

Negatives:
- Air Conditioning was poor (and was often turned off by housekeeping staff)
- If upgrades are unavailable, no further benefits for Diamond Hilton HHonors (as WiFi and breakfast are included). Hotel could have at least provided a drinks voucher!
- Many (but not all) of the staff we encountered were quite unhelpful (particularly in the restaurant and pool bar)
- Food at breakfast would frequently run out and not be replaced. There clearly weren't enough staff to manage the number of guests.
- Only 26 sundecks counted around the pool, for a hotel that has around 200 hotel rooms. Plenty of room for more to be placed.
- Often nobody at the pool bar. At one point after waiting around 20 minutes, I just took a beer from the fridge and wrote down on a napkin my room number, name, and what I had taken. When the staff member came back, he angrily came over with a receipt to sign and actually had a go at me for his lack of attention!
- No UK TV channels
- No WiFi in the pool area (good for music streaming, etc.)
- Frequently only 1 lift working, which was very slow

We weren't actually in the hotel all that much, so many of these did not have a great impact. However, on presenting my 'negative' feedback to the manager on check out, I encountered somebody who couldn't care less if he tried. He just made excuses and shrugged off valid comments/recommendations from a very frequent Hilton guest. Surely, many of these things could be improved upon very easily and would make for a much better guest experience.

Very disappointing!

The Hotel facilities were very good, the staff friendly and helpful and the food was good.
I like a Hotel that are happy to leave you to your own devices, but if you need something they react quickly and assist. They were perfect in that respect.
My room was very clean and well appointed with fridge, tea and coffee making and a balcony. Cleaned daily and fresh towels every other day.

Room tip: Most rooms have views od the mountains or the pool.

I'm extremely critical in my reviews as Tripadvisor has served me abounds for the past decade and I try to pay it forward. A solid 4.5 stars for the reasons below, I would stay here again when in Olbia.
For starters I stayed in the #1 hotel of downtown Olbia called Panorama last year (read my review) not pleased with it most notably the bed comfort amongst a range of issues. That turned out to be the main reason for choosing the Hilton as many will attest the beds in Italy can be difficult. I'm not particularly a "chain hotel" kind of traveler, although in the past year a few stays at Springhill Suites line has changed my mind and given my faith corporations can listen to the customer.

Pros; Helpful breakfast Staff (Pietro notably), beautiful property and in my opinion an excellent location last years "downtown hotel" was difficult to find, and parking was a large issue a couple of nights in their lot. There is plenty of parking at the Hilton Olbia, even at full capacity. I really like to see the American chain booked solid it presses the local boutique hotels to constantly raise the bar making it better for all potential customers. I had trouble finding a great deal of fault at the Hilton. Very comfortable bed with 4 comfortable pillows as it should be, large bathroom, room in the minibar for your own items, large balcony, TV channels in English, the maid came even when we woke up at 3pm without us even having to ask. Balcony was a plus just wish I had a view of something other than my car.

Needed Improvements; The bathroom door threshold that randomly juts up 1.5” has to be removed, put a 3" wide marble threshold down as is the norm everywhere in the world immediately. Someone is going to break their toe or fall face first in the middle of the night with that strip of stone you have now, that would never be allowed in the US its a safety issue and dangerous. Internet was intermittent, slow and spotty at best (found it worked well only on my balcony) absolutely unacceptable for a nearly brand new hotel and American chain, I will attribute it to the hotel being at full capacity but I'm taking half a star off my rating because of it. Wifi worked great in lobby. Hotel staff needs to speak english, at least 1 person at the front desk at all times. The young guy came off as unhelpful mostly because of his lack of English giving you the usual nod that he understands you but he really doesn’t, and the girl next to him upon check in spoke just as little. I had a long flight I don’t need to be using sign language or repeating myself at an American hotel chain after being up since 6am for basic questions about the room, internet connectivity, check out time and parking. I see A LOT of complaints on here about the staff across the board, maybe Hilton needs to clean house on this one? I personally can’t attest too much of it because my interaction was very minimal other than the front desk and breakfast staff.

Suggestion; Get rid of the small gym on top floor or whatever that locked room is and maybe set up a happy hour to watch the Sunset? You have sunset based bars charging an arm and a leg to watch what is truly a Sardinian gem their sunsets nightly.

Overall; I would definitely and will most likely return to the Hilton in Sardinia as we truly enjoy this island and the property checked all the right boxes at a fair price even during peak season (wish I could say the same for the airlines). Its proximity allows easy access with a rental car to Porto Cervo & south to San Teodoro and all the wonderful beaches in between. If you decide to instead stay "downtown" take into account cruise ship passenger traffic throughout the day and evening, closing of streets like Corso Umberto for pedestrians and limited parking especially in the evening, none of those issues can be found at the Hilton and you get a comfortable bed at the end of the day.

Room tip: Request a room with a view of the sunset?? We couldn't see anything but parking lot.
