“Barbagia no Bellissimo!”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

Last review I mentioned we had walked further and found somewhere we planned to visit for a meal. Well today we entered Barbagia during opening time for lunch. The pizza's were so big we did not have any room left for the complimentary hand made sweets. But forced ourselves out of gratitude to Manuel the young chef and staff for good service, fresh food and repeated advice sound advice. The ovens are on in the evenings for pizza. I did notice we were the only ones that finished our meal. Their servings are that large you would have to be a worker preferably a labourer to not struggle a little. Hubby must mention salmon pizzza comes with prawns.
Barbagia is one eatery to eat at and not feel you have been cheated out of your 2E cover charge per diner.

“The best part of our holiday”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

Staying nearby, my partner and I were looking for somewhere local to eat on our first night in Olbia. The Ristorante Barbagia was about 15 minutes away and looked the perfect place to try some local dishes.
We were not disappointed and enjoyed our meal so much that we returned every night, bar one, of our trip.
Despite a language barrier, we felt very welcome and were not at all rushed.
Unfortunately, our holiday was not a great one as we experienced several problems but knowing that we would return here each evening was something we looked forward to every day.
Thank you all for making us feel part of the family!

“Fantastic food just when we'd lost hope!!”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

After a week on the Costa Smerelda anyone can be forgiven for just settling for pizza at the local takeaway so as to avoid being hideously ripped off for rubbish fake Italian food at the numerous restaurants in the area... we had just about decided to stick with the pizzas when we decided to drive half an hour to Olbia to try out Ristorante Barbagia... we were not dissapointed, the place was AMAZING and definitely offered the best Italian food we've ever eaten. We had the Culurgiones, beautifully cooked sardinian ravioli with potato and cheese filling in an amazingly rich and flavorsome tomato sauce and the wild boar macaroni, in which the meat was flakey, rich and delightful. We followed this with suckling pig cooked to perfection... although we struggled to make our way through it after somewhat overdosing on the primi piatti. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, totally traditional, totally delicious... and even has an amazing gelato shop right next door.... 'La Pecora Nera' - their pistachio ice cream was definitely the best we tried.... leave the tourist area and find true Sardinian cuisine!

“Very good food, but slow service”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

The majority of customers are either local or from mainland Italy. The food is very good indeed, properly prepared, tasty and the portions are generous. You are usually served the traditional Sardinian flat bread (pane carasau) sprinkled with sea salt and a tiny bit of excellent olive oil, which you can nibble while waiting. You may try traditional Sardinian fare, such as local ravioli, made according to a Renaissance recipe, slightly sweet, with a tomato sauce, roast suckling pig, which I generally find too bland, or fish, followed by mature pecorino cheese, local cakes with ice-cream or a more traditional seadas, fried large raviolo with local cheese filling, with lots of honey on top. The only snag: you have to call the waiter's attention more than once, and sometimes he or she still forgets...This should be improved. Maybe I shall write it in Italian as well.

“Old school but excellent food”
Reviewed 24 September 2013 via mobile

We went a party of six. The restaurant was recommended by a local and were not disappointed.
The menu is Sardinian specialities. We ordered plentiful and tried many different dishes, all were extremely tasty but the bottarga (sardinian fish roe)which requires a certain palate. The fish was done to perfection and very fresh. Although it's mainly fish restaurant, the nice chunk of entrecote was full of flavour and also made to perfection.
We had very personal and prompt service maybe due to the fact that we had come early and there were only two tables to wait.
