We stayed at La Fenice after swapping in a time share.
It is a small, friendly resort with a really lovely pool. When we were there it was very quiet and we virtually had the pool to ourselves. It's situated in the hills, so one side looks out onto mountain (the only sound is the gentle ring of the bells round the sheeps necks as the farmer leads them down the mountain) the other towards the sea. It was very quiet and peaceful - pitch black and night and great for seein the stars!
Some of the staff don't speak English, or very good English, so it would be useful to have a few Italian phrases, although we got by OK.
The resort is quite isolated - you definitely need a car. It is near other houses but there is no shop nearby or any activities. I suppose they might be able to book you a taxi but it's definitely not on a main road! The restaurant on site has very set meal times and in the evenings serves a set menu. We didn't eat there, preferring to cook for ourselves or eat out, wherever we had been that day. Worth mentioning that cooking facilities are limited to 2 gas rings though!
In terms of the surrounding area, I think Olbia gets a pretty rough ride on the Sardinia forums! True, it's not the prettiest and to reach the hotel you have to drive through a maze of industrial estates (although the signposting is pretty good) but we found some lovely places within an easy drive. And it's so convenient for the airport too. Olbia has some lovely old streets to wander down and the area near the port has bars and cafes to sit out at near the water.
Pittulongu beach is sandy and long and literally about 10 minutes drive. Porto Cervo is worth visiting just to see how the other half live! And there's some lovely islands worth visiting.
So in short, if you have the opportunity to visit La Fenice as a timeshare exchange I'd go, as for the money (we paid £100 for the whole week) it was well worth it. However if you'd be paying normal rates, I expect (although we didn't look to confirm this) there may be places that would offer you more convenience, if not more facilities, for your money.
