When we arrived the whole family were there to welcome us. There was a tasty, typical Sicilian meal almost ready, with delicioius pasta and the meat cooked on an open fire in a specially built fireplace in the restaurant, with as much local wine as we wished. Our hosts made us feel a part of their family and completely at home. I felt that I was with long lost friends. I also had a real opportunity to speak more Italian than on all previous holidays to Italy. As we had no transport, Angelo was more than willing to give us lifts to the nearest town, and took us on a trip to see Etna, his magnificent villa and the fish market in Catania. He even came to pick us up when we got off the bus at the wrong stop. Marila spent a long time on the computer with us showing us what we could visit in Catania and how to get there.
The views were magnificent and we had plenty of long walks through orange groves and along the rocky coast. Breakfast was continental, but plenty available with delicious marmalade and home made orange juice from the oranges on their land. It was fun seeing so many cats and dogs, especially when they were fed, and they were no problem to guests. We had a lovely room with ensuite bath and a heater. There was a huge sheltered balcony overlooking a fantastic view where one could read or exercise. I hope to be able to go back and see them one day.
