“Convenient B&B”
Reviewed 22 June 2012

THE PLACE:
This B&B sits in a spacious apartment in a residential building, quite conveniently located, in an elegant part of the town, and at a walking distance (20 min) from the old city (you don't want to stay in the old city as it is quite dirty and can be a bit dodgy in certain parts).
The rooms are huge and very comfortable, with beautiful paintings on the ceiling. There is a king-sized bed and a single bed in the room, although I would assume they charge you more if 3 people are staying in it.
SERVICE:
The only downside is that compared to other B&Bs, no one lives there. Basically there is only staff at reception when you check-in and when you check-out, so there is not a lot of attention. Our flight was leaving late and when checking out at 11am we asked if we could leave our luggage and pick it up at 5pm, they just said 'no' as no one would be there to open the door for us! They do give you a mobile number to call in case you need help during your stay, but overall it feels like you are renting a flat with someone to fix the breakfast in the morning.
CARPARK:
They provide a parking space in a little patio behind the building, which is convenient and will save you a few euros per day. However be careful if you have anything bigger than a fiat punto, it is difficult to get in and even more to get out as it is tiny and there is a very steep slope. We almost ruined the clutch of our rented car as we had to exit in reverse gear up!

My sister & I stayed 6 days at this B & B, using it as our base to visit Sicily, the island that our great grandparents came from. It was clean, beautifully decorated, and they served a very nice breakfast every day. The manager, Matilde Cifali, lives just across the hall from the B & B and was very helpful, telling us about good restaurants in the area, helping us with printed bus schedules to different cities, and locating banks, churches, and sights of interest on the city map that the B & B provided. Although we didn't need it, there is also a place to park a car. The B & B is located on a great shopping street, just down from the Belini Gardens, & within walking distance to the bus or train station. Matilde even arranged for the taxi to take us to the airport for our return flight home. If you get the chance to go to Sicily, Catania is a very nice, clean city to make yur base of operations, & the B & B Antiche Volte is a delightful place to rest at night - and the shower was wonderful!

Room Tip: There are several beautifully decorated rooms. We stayed in the "yellow" room, closest to...

What a lovely Bed and Breakfast, with such beautiful artwork! We stayed in the largest room (the suite) with a breathtaking fresco on the ceiling, which was delightful and relaxing to look at when we awoke the following morning. The breakfast room is particulary charming, displaying some wonderful "Ceramiche De Simone" ceramics from the owers store. The staff are very friendly AND they speak English! I would thoroughly recommend this B & B to anyone who is visiting the Catania/Taormina area.

We stayed for 3 nights and had a great time. The rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated (great ceiling). The staff was pleasant and very helpful. Breakfast was very good with great ceramics from the owner's shop (ask the staff where to find the shop). We had a rental car so the parking was extremely convenient. Only negative thing I can say is that the bed mattress was a bit on the hard side. We would surely recommed this B&B for couples visiting Catania.

Officially opened in November 2010, Antiche Volte is a wonderful B&B offering four rooms with remarkable ceiling work. Its proximity to the historical center of Catania and the shopping street Via Etnea make it an ideal accommodation option. My partner and I stayed here for a total of four nights in two different rooms.

The first three days of our two-week vacation were spent exploring the region of Mt. Etna, which made Catania the perfect hub. Our journey then took us to the Aeolian Islands, Syracuse, the southeast to then return to Catania before heading home.

Both rooms were spacious and well equipped with large comfortable beds, air-conditioning, TV, Wi-Fi and a mini bar, and each room had a French window opening to a small balcony. The first room had a smaller bathroom with a shower; the second room had a larger bathroom with a whirlpool bathtub which was a real treat on our last evening in Sicily.

Breakfast was delicious and included freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee, a nice selection of teas, toast and croissant-like pastries from the nearby bakery.

Staff are friendly, dedicated and speak English and French. Upon our arrival at Antiche Volte, staff member Katia went out of her way to help us retrieve our lost baggage.

Owner Matilde told me of future plans to expand and renovate further rooms on the second floor so as to accommodate more guests.

So if you’re looking for the perfect place to stay while in Catania, look no further –THIS is it! Antiche Volte has a lot to offer and comes highly recommended.

Found this B&B the night before leaving, they were very quick to respond to my room request and flexible with our arrival time the next day. The B&B is new and everything is clean and comfortable. The bed is a true king and not two twin beds pushed together like most other places-I am quite picky about mattresses and I slept great in this bed! The balconies were a nice touch, we had a lovely lunch out there one day. We stayed in the suite and the jacuzzi was a nice addition, especially considering the weather was rainy and cold. The ceiling of the room was gorgeous, very unique we thought. All of the recommendations provided by the B&B were excellent and close-by. We found a fish restaurant and wine bar, both right around the corner, that we loved (we went to the wine bar multiple times). The staff was all very friendly and accommodating, helping us make dinner reservations, calling us a cab that took credit card, etc. Breakfast was good-croissants, coffee, toast, juice. Location is very close to the bus station (good for getting the bus to Taormina) and is about 10 minutes to the main street. Total walking time was about 20 minutes to the main square, but it was a very enjoyable walk.
