“A fabulous choice of Hotel stay- Luxury at it's best”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

I suggest you book this hotel straight away- you won't be disappointed!
From the moment we entered the hotel lobby we felt at home and that is very unusual in a hotel. We found the hotel by accident, arriving to Catania with nowhere to stay! The hotel lobby was creatively designed to give a baroque yet homely feel, the decor was warm yet minimalistic but extremely homely.
We met two lovely and helpful ladies in the reception who guided us to free on street (safe and secure) parking, directly outside the hotel entrance- we just had to put a sign on the inside of the window saying we were staying in the hotel Romano.
From there we were shown to our beautiful bedroom- room 118, which had the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in- a huge bed! with silk sheets, all spotless and brand new.
The room was very well designed, spacious and comfortable- I could have stayed in the room forever, it was just beautiful- and I believe it was just a standard bedroom in the hotel!
The bathroom was equally beautiful, it include a bath and expensive sweet smelling toliteries as complimentary. There was beautiful towels, so soft and we designer towels as opposed to your typical white hotel towel. There was also a bath as well as a shower which was very welcomed.
Then we needed help from the reception staff (Roberto & Guaicho(apologies about the spelling!)) in relation to Catania and exploring it- they were so helpful and genuinely interested in assisting us, even organizing a free taxi service to their sister hotels- the Romano Palace hotel- beach for us with complimentary entrance one day. Without them suggesting this to us we would never of known about this and we are so grateful to them- it was a lovely relaxing day at the beach with sun loungers and a place to shade all provided.
The Wifi in the hotel was very user friendly and reliable- it was also free of charge.
Breakfast was superb- typicasl Sicilian and very fresh, coffee was A1 and all the pastries were freshly cooked. Scrambled eggs were delicious and the fruit was mouth wateringly delicious. The choice and selection was the best we've seen in our stay here in Sicily. The waiting staff were very kind and helpful, but hardworking and non invasive also, which I particularly liked first thing in the morning!
I noticed the staff were young (all seemed in their late 20's & 30's) and this was lovely as they were very well able to relate with their clientele. Nothing was too much to ask and they went way over and beyond our expectations. The hotel manager was very nice, seemed like an approachable guy who treated his staff well and reaped the rewards of a happy work relationship with them as a result. The whole atmosphere in the hotel was relaxing and warm.
As for the road which the hotel is situated on- it's fine. We walked up and down it numerous times and quite enjoyed the mixed culture on it to be frank! We experienced no problems and I personally feel anybody who turns their nose to the working women on it (only a handful) may be a bit prudish- it didn't bother me. The whole of Catania is a mixed bag of everything imaginable! We loved the city, it was so vibrant and friendly and this hotel just made our stay completely perfect. We sincerely thank you for having us stay in your hotel, we would love to return sometime and recommend you 100% to customers thinking of staying in Hotel Romano House. Best Regards

I stayed here for five nights and found the quality of the hotel very good, everything was clean and tidy to the point that I wondered how long it had been open. I couldn't fault the staff in any way what so ever they were always more than helpful.example: I couldn't find my way back to the hotel in the car because some of the roads had been closed off. So I walked back and told them where it was parked and they went and got it for me . The breakfast was good with a large choice and the hotels restaurant was also very good
The only down point I could pick out would be the street in is on, there is a block of flats opposite and if you walk right out of the hotel door for 200 meters of an evening there are lady's of the night plying the trade.

We stayed here for 3 nights while we visited in Catania and enjoyed our stay very much.
Positive:
- the hotel is not very big, you don't get lost in it and it has a personal touch
- the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated
- it is very central, close to so many attractions
- the breakfast was good, the coffee great.
- the staff is very firendly and helpful.
Negative:
- somewhat loud, since it's located so central
- the bathroom was not very clean on our first day. they improved afterwards though.

All in all, a hotel I would recommend.

We've stayed here for 11 nights (it was our honeymoon!) and they all were worthwile. In a chaotic city like Catania it was great to have a place where you could feel the rest and relax the minute you entered the beautiful hall. Our room was very spacious (room 103) and beautiful designed (the pictures on the website are exactly the same as it is in real live, that's not always the case as you know...). The room was cleaned every day in a proper way, the bed was terrific (180 cm as 1 mattress so no separate mattress and of couse a box spring). Breakfast was okay, not very much choice and rather simple but for us that was absolutely okay because everything was there. The staff was very friendly, always smiling and relaxed and everyone could help you in English (and even Dutch :-)). The neighbourhood is not that good especially on your right side when exiting the hotel (prostitutes) but on your left side it was perfect and we could find a lot of excellent restaurants. We stayed on the first floor at the side of the street but we didn't hear a lot of noise in the room itself (there was a Irish pub with rather loud live music but we couldn't hardly hear it in the room). We've rented a car (people drive like crazy in Sicily, be aware...) and parking around the hotel was no problem. You could use a card for half a day and that costed only Euro 2,40 (and after 20.00 it was free parking). From Catania Airport we took the bus (ATM) to the railway station of Catania and that costed only Euro 0,80 instead on Euro 20,-- for a taxi (you can't buy the ticket in the bus itself so go to the box office just outside the airport at your right side). From the railway station it is only a 10 minute walk to the hotel (and then you will first see the 'bad' neighboorhood but don't be afraid or scared ;-)).

I have stayed in this hotel for 5 nights / 6 days two weeks ago. In general: very very nice and to be recommended
I have got a double room with the view giving inside court in lobby. Frankly speaking, as I was lot of time outside , I was not distrub by the noise. But I can imagine that for a person for a certain age or for a people with kids it can be not the perfect choice. For solo traveller as I was , this room was perfect. Beautiful and big bathroom, very nice and huge walk in wardrobe. Maybe only one thing which is missing in wardrobe was a light. Aircondition was working perfectly.
Cleaning room: was perfect
Breakfast was very nice. I have seen that lot of people here did complain about " poor" breakfast. First of all, you have to take into consideration that Italian do not eat proper breakfast: some bred / cakes and coffee. I personally found breakfast very rood: scrambled eggs, ham, cheese, cakes, fruits - all necessary but very good quality products
Activiities: hotel works with excursion office and they have different programm for visiting Etna, Siracuza, Taormina etc. To be recommended
Fitness: hotel has a small but fine fine fitness room, all machines are brand new.
Location: 5 minutes waliking to the Duomo, but if you go out from the hotel, never take right side. always go to the left, toward the center. On a right side of the hotel there are lot of strange people, empty houses etc, but this location is very safe.
Hotel staff: was really very nice. Roberto, Christina are great guys and were always there to help / advise. Many thanks

Great service. Generally all the staff is very polite and friendly. Roberto was very helpful!! Thank you. The building is beautiful and renovated. The room was clean and nice but on the ground floor next to the reception. Unacceptable room very noisy. Felt like i was sleeping at the lobby. Woke up by the reception phone ringing and the preparation from the breakfast area. Window opens on ground floor parking and air condition external devices that are VERY noisy all through the night!!!! Not a room to be rented out to guests!

The hotel is great and location couldn't be better, between Syracuse (Ortigia is a must!), Mt Etna (go in the morning!!) and Taormina. Little restaurants around the hotel and there's a small but really good gym with modern equipments. Good breakfast! Parking can be an issue during the day as it is a busy street, but apparently is an issue all over famous cities in Sicily.
