“Great for families”

First, all the good points. The description of the property is accurate. It's set in 10 acres of olive groves, and although there is next to a road it only leads to a car park half way up Etna, so even in daytime there is little traffic and at night it is silent. You can easily sleep with windows open and not get disturbed.
The bedrooms are a good size and the beds extremely comfortable. A family of four would have plenty of room. The kitchen is well equipped, so if you want to do some home cooking it's no problem, although a microwave might make things a bit easier.
The swimming pool is really big although April isn't the best time to use it. The caretakers, an English / American couple, live in the main house, and are great source of advice and help with any problems.
All in all, it's a very quiet, peaceful country property and a family could have a great time here.
There's always a few drawbacks, but not many. It's not the easiest of places to find without a GPS. As a general point, don't even think of going anywhere in Sicily without a GPS. You'll get there eventually, but the divorce will probably come through before you arrive.
There is a decent restaurant within walking distance, but apart from that you'll have to drive. The local town of Belpasso is 4.5 km downhill, and if you like Pizza, you'll be in heaven. For anything more, it's better to drive to Nicolosi which is 10 mins further, but has a much greater choice of restaurants. It's worth noting that portion sizes are invariably enormous, and a couple of anti-pasti and a couple of Pizza's / main courses will feed most families of 4.
The must-see tourist towns of Taormina and Siracuse are just over an hours drive away, but good luck with the parking.
Wherever you stay, you'll have to do some driving. We prefer to stay in a quiet country place, rather than in an apartment in a town, so Villa Segreta fits the bill perfectly.

Thanks for the lovely and very complete review. Good point about SatNav as it's best not to rely just on Google but get a downloadable version. We have now bought a TomTom which we can lend to guests so hope that will help. You were lovely guests and very much welcome to return

“Rustic Sicily with stunning views of Mount Etna”
Reviewed 21 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

A lovely rustic cottage attached to the owners property on the slopes of Etna. This apartment is 30 mins up Etna, but is in a brilliant position for those who like exploring. There are many hiking paths and trails in close proximity to be discovered. Try Monti Rossi at Nicolosi which is the next town on. There is a barbecue area, play area for children and a trail up the side of this extinct crater.
Further a field, are the picturesque tourist towns of Taormina, Syracuse and Aci Trezzi where you can join an excursion along the coast on one of the many boat trips available.
The gorges close to Taormina are worth a visit.
The nearest beach is Playa Lido at Catania which is sandy and has a variety of paid entrance beaches. Lido Jolly cost about €30 for 3 beds and brollys and the advantage was that you could join in with the beach volley ball, the aqua aerobics or get a bit to eat from the cafe.
After all this we relaxed by the lovely pool and made friends with the owners who were so helpful. They all made us very welcome and helped us to fall 'in love' with Sicily.

I would do the same holiday again.

“Lovely place”
Reviewed 29 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We had a great time. House and pool lovely. The caretakers were very easy going, friendly and helpful. You do need a car to get around, it's a 20min (hot!) walk to Belpasso, but plenty of places to eat nearby and Belpasso is an interesting town.
Etna makes a lovely view with constantly changing cloud patterns, great to study from the pool!
The dogs are lovely - they hate the rain, wanted to come in for reassurance which was sweet but I suppose might be less good if you had a problem with dogs...we denied them entrance!!

Thank you for your review. The dogs are never allowed into the holiday villette, so you did the right thing by not allowing the dogs in, they have covered kennels in the courtyard for when the weather isn't nice and no one is home to let them into the main family home. They were probably trying it on to see if you were a soft touch!!
Thanks again.

“Beautiful Villa, Gorgeous Hosts”

Delightful stay at Villa Segreta with 3 children in August. Thanks so much to our lovely hosts for making our stay so perfect. Villa, pool and location are all lovely with beautiful outdoor seating area under a shady walnut tree, poolside gazebo and views of smoking Mount Etna in the distance. But it was our hosts who really made our holiday special: prosecco, 'the best pasta sauce in the world' according to Francis (age 8) + a floodlit pool to jump into on our (late) arrival. Home made pizza from the outdoor pizza oven on our last day and lots of fun in between. The location is great, allowing for Mount Etna fun 25 minutes uphill and beach visits (by car) approx 45 mins down hill (you do need a car). Highly recommended: we would LOVE to come back. Thanks so much to Christine, Salvatore, Maria, Issac, Jude and not forgetting Cokie, Luna and Beagle: you made our holiday. Thank you!

Thank you for your review. You were lovely guests so easy going and friendly. Jude loved spending time with Francis. We would love to have you back anytime. My dad (Salvatore) always boasts about Francis saying his sauce being the Best pasta sauce in the world to family and friends, he made one old man happy!!
Best wishes

“Warmest Welcome in a beautiful location”
Reviewed 12 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We booked this villa as we liked the photos and wanted to be near Etna. What a lovely place, really. Though the weather was against us and we were ill, the caretake Salvatore completely made up for it. Looking back at the reviews now, none of the issues raised seem to be a problem now, except perhaps the hot water pressure, which is not really a huge problem due to the heat, though a pump would make this place flawless. The dogs are no problem at all and are well behaved to the point that they won't even come into the guest accomodation, if you like dogs they are wonderful company and if you don't they just get on with their own thing. The owners are extremely accomodating - we suggested a microwave as families with babies might appreciate this (we weren't bothered) and Salvatore went out that day to buy one!

On our first night we arrived late and were hungry and tired - a large glass of wine each, a bottle of prosecco and beautiful pasta meal provided by Salvatore was so welcome. He couldn't do enough for us, extremely accomodating for us and our children, who were free to run in the acres of olive groves, safe and fenced in from the road on the estate. The pool is one of the best we have come across at such accomodation, and was being meticulously cleaned by Salvatore every day. Yes its slightly cool but welcome in 30 odd degree heat. The poolside relaxation area was lovely and its incredible when there to think that you have such a facility completely to yourself.

All in all a very comfortable and enjoyable stay where we all felt at ease the entire time and would definitely stay again.

“A week isn't long enough”
Reviewed 3 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Four of us stayed at the villa in the last week of July, Christine and Salvatore made us welcome straight away with an ice cold bottle of Prosecco and Salvatore's LAST beer for the lads.

You can do as little or as much as you like from this hidden part of Sicily on Mount Etna's exciting slopes

Just up from Belpasso where you can get any food/drink you need you can relax all day by the private pool or head out to see the best parts of the island

If you need advice on places to visit, places to eat or just need a bucket of ice Christine and Salvatore will be on hand for you and equally leave you in peace when you are sleeping off a few mid afternoon drinks :)

The two rooms are great and had plenty of room for 4 of us (2 couples) have everything needed in the kitchen if you wanted to stay in and cook.

Some recommendations

*Order steak from the restaurant 5 minutes down the road and ask Salvatore how to have it cooked first

*Drive up to see the craters at the top of Mount Etna

*Try the local fruit and veg stores rather than the supermarket

*Don't run out of prosecco

Thanks for a great trip
