“Good,because of the location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2014 via mobile

Central location.
The rooms are clear but they are small.
Good wifi and polite staff.
The breakfast could be better.
The dinner was unacceptable(from the 14 visitors who ordered pork, just one ate it.The rest 13 didn't even touch their plates)

I took Bus 457 the 6km from Catania Airport to Piazza Trento (opposite the hotel), travel time = 20 minutes, cost = €1. For the return journey (Aeroporto) there's a self-service machine next to the bus stop & kiosk opposite the hotel. Use the same bus stop at Piazza Trento. Alternatively it's €20 for a taxi from the Hotel.

I was part of a party of six people. We stayed for 4 nights/5 days (Wed-Sun).

Myself and a friend stayed in twin bedded room 735 (quiet room at rear of premises).

Pros:
-Friendly staff.
-Quick checkin with helpful Reception staff. I requested and was given a quiet room on a higher floor, facing away from traffic noise. Our rooms were all ready so we could check in early at 12pm (local time).
-Free WiFi - up to 150 megabytes per 24 hours - accessible in all rooms. Faster, unlimited access is chargeable.
-Three lifts to all floors (one lift has ground floor wheelchair access).
-Clean and well-maintained premises.
-Key card entry (one per person) to solid door with bedroom containing two single beds, twin bedside table & lamps, telephone, 2x upholstered tub chairs, suitcase area, glass-topped writing desk, Philips tube TV (English language channels include CNN, BBC World News, CNBC, hotel information section. Non English language channels include MTV and Eurosport), desk lamp, fridge (minibar contents chargeable), large mirror, 2-door cupboard with hanging space, 3 small drawers, electronic safe, trouser press. En suite bathroom with shower-bath, sink, lotions, hair dryer, toilet, bidet and a ceiling speaker linked to the TV.
-Ground floor 'Liotru' Bar open 10am-12pm everyday.
-Breakfast served 7am-10am in the floor 1 'Gourmet' restaurant. Wide range of self-service hot and cold food.
-Checkout 12pm.

Cons:
-No coffee/tea making facilities in room.
-More storage in room for clothing would be useful.
-No swimming pool or fitness centre. I took running shoes and did a 30 minute run down/up Via Etnea and Giardino Bellini (municipal gardens) off it.

Notes:
-Turn left out of the hotel entrance/exit, then immediately first left, walk for approx 7-10 minutes and turn left into Via Etnea (Catania's main street) containing shops and cafés. I recommend turning off it to look at the Giardino Bellini (municipal gardens).
-I thoroughly recommend the 'Il Pozzo' restaurant with plentiful indoor and outdoor seating. It's located 5 minutes walk opposite the hotel entrance/exit. Ask Reception for exact directions.
-There's a small kiosk selling soft and alcoholic drinks opposite the hotel entrance/exit. I bought a couple of bottles of Moretti beer to drink in the room (I took my own bottle opener).
-For the closest pharmacy turn right out of hotel entrance/exit and look for the green lit-up + sign 5 minutes walk on the right-hand side of the street.
-I stumbled across a large outdoor street market at Piazza Carlo Alberto selling fish, meat, fruit, clothes, jewellery etc. It's open every day (all day Saturdays). Ask Reception for directions.
-I took a train from Catania Borgo station to/from Randazzo. 2.5 hours each way.
-I took a bus from Catania to/from Taormina. 1 hour each way.
-I took a bus from Catania to/from Aci Castello (Norman Castle on top of a basalt rock jutting into the sea). 20-30 minutes each way.

Catania cannot be described as an attractive city....its gritty and real, busy with traffic, lots of graffitti and has some very dodgy areas. This hotel is in one of the smarter areas with good shops, restaurants and bars in the area, but within 5 minutes walk of the morning markets which are a feature of the city. The hotel is smart and calm, we were offered an upgrade of room for 10 euro and had a fantastic large room on the top floor with great views of Etna. Staff were very helpful and spoke good English. Breakfast served on 1st floor with no view. Big selection, everything we could have wanted and we were left on our own to help ourselves. Coffee vending machine style, would be better if staff made fresh coffee to order. Breakfast room a little dated, not up to normal NH standards. Reception organised a cheap taxi transfer to the airport.

Room Tip: Rooms on 9th floor south side quieter, blackout blinds stop sun glare. Room 921 has view of Etna

NH chain has great hotels in Europe.
This Hotel is a bit old and overrated.
Rooms are clean but very small and old fashioned.
Toilets are ok and hotel staff is nice and helpful.
Avoid the restaurant, very poor in comparison with local Trattorias and restaurants of sicilian heritage.
Definitively one of the best hotel for business stay in Catania, but don't expect to find NH standards.

We spent a weekend in the NH Bellini this winter and had a great experience. I'd say the hotel itself is average, with decent beds, bathrooms and linens (four-star in Europe, but closer to standard three-star in the U.S.). The toiletries were excellent, though. What elevates the NH Bellini is the very helpful and courteous staff, as well as the free amenities: parking, wi-fi, breakfast and late check-out on Sunday (5 pm, as part of a 'City Breaks' deal offered by the chain). Its location is a little outside the main attractions, but Catania isn't that large. It was a 15 minute walk to the main historical area and restaurants.

I have been for only a short wk end at NH Bellini and have felt so good there. Great hospitality from reception people Piero and another lady receptionist and also Massimo. Down at the breakfast great service from Giovanni and Antonio and I must encourage the gluten free table, it was excellent to feel cared for with these items at breakfast table. Thank you. I will come again.
