“Positively stupendous!”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

My friend Gemma and I thought we would only stay one night, but ended up staying two because:
- the staff was great, Alessandro and Santina were wonderful!
- the restaurant next door was delicious, where every Tuesday the cous cous is half-price and the waiters buzz around from table to table, smiling, laughing and making you feel like part of the family
- great cocktails at restaurant, (but never order Japanese ice tea, it's too strange)
- flanking the hostel is the fish market, a roaring good time of old men selling seafood, giving cheek kisses, handing out their granite di limone, singing, etc
- beautiful high ceilings
- functional fans and showers for the peak of August humidity
- lovely little kitchen
- computer access
- etc, etc
Thanks!

Overall, this hostel wasn't too bad. I thought the breakfast was really good, especially because it was on the terrace of the bar attached to the hostel. Also, the people behind the desk were extremely friendly and helpful and the hostel is close to the most interesting sights of the city. However, I thought the hostel was not too clean. The floors were really dusty and the girls' bathroom was really dirty. Perhaps that was due to the fact that there was a large group of French kids staying there and it was simply not feasable to keep the place clean. But still... Also, the hostel is attached to a bar and in the morning, there is the market close by, so that doesn't help getting a good night's sleep. I didn't mind, however, since you know about that when you book in advance. But if you need your sleep, this place might not be the best idea. And also, the bar is really crowded in the evening and you can only sit there if you order something. So, there were only a tiny living room and kitchen to hang out and no real comfy place to sit and eat your own food. I think this hostel is not bad but not the best I have been to.

Party time in the bar of the hostel without having been warned.
The solution in a crowded dorm is to close the window with a
Temperature of 40 degrees!
Slept 3 hours. That a really not fair not to warn the clients about a party stopping after 3pm

My friend and I stayed there for 4 nights. The hostel is well located. The bus depot is 3-5Minutes away, the shopping street too. And right next to the hostel is the fish marked of catania.
The personnel was very friendly and helpful. Also their English was very good. The hostel is open 24 hours, so you can go and come back when ever you want. Every day the charwomen cleaned the bath- and bedrooms. For the bed you get a pillowcase and a lacquer. There is no spread. But you dont need one, because at night its hot enough.
You can use the common kitchen, fridge, and TV. If you want a relaxed eve, you can borrow a DVD. The hostel has a big collection. Or you like to go outside and want to see Catania by night. The hostel has a bar and restaurant too. Every Monday there is the biggest party of catania. Well... I saw this "party", and that wasn't a "real" party. There were hundreds of people, but nobody danced.

Some people like the bar right next to the hostel, but if you want to sleep before 5:00 AM you need a very deep sleep, because the music is very loud, and the bar do not close before that time...

All in all it is a good location to stay. It's located very good, and you feel very comfortable.

This was the worst night I have ever had travelling. Thankfully,I only had one night in catania or I would have moved. I stayed in the "single/twin room". The room had a window that opened onto the street which was unable to be closed. This meant that anytime anybody walked alone the pavement or a vehicle went passed it was literally meters away and loud! Add on to this the music from the bar around the corner...
Furthermore, it was very hot, no aircon and a pathetic little fan. To top it off the room was full of Mosquitos so I woke with bites all over my body.
I would not recommend this place to friend or foe!

I really don't know what to make of this hostel. The location is unbeatable, it has excellent staff, and the sheets and toilets are impeccably clean, but the layout makes no sense (several dorms are only accessible through other dorms), and parts of it are literally falling apart (like the shower curtains). They've crammed bunks in as close as they can physically fit so it's a pretty cramped hostel and the common area is tiny. There's a *very* active bar in the lower floor/outside on the street but the windows do a surprisingly good job keeping the noise outside... as long as you're willing to boil inside, because most of the rooms don't have fans. There also aren't functioning locks in any part of the hostel except the toilets (including the showers) or seats on the toilets.

IMPORTANT NOTE: don't stay here on a Monday. The bar has some kind of theme night that draws incredible crowds of locals who fill the entire street on all sides of the hostel and makes it essentially impossible to sleep until it ends (usually well into the morning).

Room Tip: Make every effort not to stay here on a Monday night. The rooms over the entrance are much quieter t...

WE DIDN'T STAY AT THE HOSTEL, ONLY BEEN TO THE RESTAURANT

Almost everyone in Catania suggested us to visit that hostel even if we don't stay there, and told us to try their special beer and enjoy the food. There was a huge sign on the wall saying: " I <3 COUSCOUS!" so we were deceived by the sign and got couscous and special ale. Unfortunately it was the only horrible eating&drinking experience during our whole Sicily trip(which lasted 6 days).
I don't know if that's the typical way to prepare couscous in Sicily, but that was definitely not for our taste.(the couscous was really dry and only poured on the boiled chicken and its water). On the other hand the place seems wonderful, many people are there during evening, nice live music. Probably a place to visit in Catania.
