It is to date my favorite traveling experience! this beautiful hotel is historic and central. I had an amazing view with my large, clean room.

We travelled with a one year old baby, (which in italy, especially sicily is like having a passport to excellent service). The hotel arranged a pick up from the airport for a reasonable fixed rate (contact them beforehand, as they have an arrangement with a local firm).

The hotel is tucked away in the old town, next to the old castle, just off a square with a number of restuarants peppered around it. Inside its spacious and clean and you do have access to kitchens, so is ideal for heating baby food. We were placed in one of the apartments, which had a kitchen shared between two rooms. However, early sept seemed a quiet period for the hotel, so we had it all to ourselves. The room also had a spacious balacony. The kitchen area's can also make a nice area to sit when u don't want to be couped up in your room.

The location is good, for the local bus station and city centre. It was easy enough to walk to the bus stop to get a bus to the beach (10min journey in the bus).

During the day around the hotel there are plenty of places to get snacks, with a mini-market and chemist just round the corner.

We had a really great time here, the staff in particular one lady (long curly brown hair) was really helpful and always cheerful, and willing to help (given that we had a baby with us).

To make the most of it in Catania, do brush up on your basic Italian as english isn't so prominent amongst the adults. Also make a reservation at some of the restuarants around the fish market, as the food is outstanding.

Hello. We enjoyed the location of the hotel, it's quite central in Catania to get around. We wish the first person we spoke with at the hotel had given us better directions around. However, the rooms are rather dingy and run down. The shower had mildew everywhere so it wasn't exactly clean. I got the impression the hotel used to be apartments which they then converted into a hotel. It doesn't have any typical four star amenities such as a pool or the quality of a four star. I would therefore say a 3 star is more accurate. The one redeeming aspect of our stay was that the breakfast was excellent, probably the best we had at a hotel in Sicily...so I can recommend that aspect.

There's no nice way to put this: the elevator stinks. (It's the filthy rug, which needs replacing immediately -- and we told them upon checkout.) So while the hotel itself is perfectly adequate -- nice olde world feel; a good-sized guest room that could have used a fresh coat of paint; fine (and standard for other Italian hotels we've stayed in) breakfast; pleasant and courteous, English-speaking staff; good location -- the smelly first impression in the elevator lingered. I mean, how could anyone who works here not notice?

My wife and I stayed at the Residence La Vetreria the night before out flight to Milan. We had been visiting relatives in Sicily and near Milan. When we told them where we were staying they were concerned about the zone feeling that it was not the safest place. I must admit it is not in what would normally called the best section of town. However, my wife and I found the accommodations to be very good and the service excellent. Since we arrived on Sunday, most restaurants seemed to be closed, but we found this wonderful little store on the adjacent street which was open. We purchased cheese, egg plant and tomatoes in olive oil, break and wine for under 12 Euros and ate in our apartment at the hotel which also had a full kitchen. It was a wonderful meal and we really enjoyed our conversation with the owner and his wife. We did run into a problem with the door lock since the nob to open it was missing. I spoke to the receptionist about the problem and she went right up to our room, found the missing nob, and had the lock working within minutes. That's what I call service. The hotel also arranged a taxi to the airport for us the next morning. When we came down to check out, the driver in a suit was waiting for us and took us to the airport in a luxury SUV for $18Euros. What a surprise. Although the room was very clean and the hotel furnishing, etc very unique, my wife did have one concern. This centered about the mildew on ceiling over the shower. There was also mildew in the caulking where the shower stall and the pan were joined. We were in room 31 and believe this needs to be addressed by the maintenance staff because it did detract somewhat from out experience. The breakfast in the morning was simply wonderful. There were such a variety of meats, cheeses, cereals, muffins, sweets, and pastries. I wish I could have stayed another night just to try them all. Breakfast did not start however until 7:30am which might be a bit late for some, although when my wife and I went down early everything was ready to go. We really appreciated the uniqueness of this hotel and the service it provided.

Residence La Vetreria is definitely one of the best accommodation choices in Catania. I stayed 4 nights in March 2009 and was very satisfied by everything. The hotel itself is located very close to the heart of the historic centre of the city (central duomo can be reached within 5 mins on foot) and abt 20 mins by car from the airport.
The building must have been a kind of mansion in the past, that has been carefully renovated without loosing its original style! Each floor has a big living room very nicely decorated with a small kitchen and a number of individual rooms. Each room has plenty of space, its own private bathroom, decorated mostly with wood and italian authentic colors. Cleaning is punctual and spotless. Service very good, friendly and English-speaking, plus they have very good suggestions for food and activities like volcano etna visiting. Breakfast is great and full of italian specialities!
Free internet is also a plus! Overall great stay and very good value for money!
