The Hotel Collegiata is located on a small side street just off of the main shopping drag of Via Etnea. This was a perfect location for exploring the city. I visited with some colleagues earlier in January and really enjoyed the hotel.

It is certainly basic, but it was clean and comfortable and felt a bit like I was staying over in someone's family home. Breakfast was included and offered croissants, cappuccino and a range of yogurts, toast and other basics.

I was lucky to get a room facing the courtyard. The small street outside becomes a surprising night spot in the late hours and the rooms facing the street can be noisy.

There are fancier hotels in the center of Catania, and if you want something posh, this place isn't for you. However, if you are looking for something basic, well located, authentic and a good value, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: If you would like a good night's sleep, make sure you ask for a room facing the courtyard. Rooms...

I've just returned from Catania and Taormina. This was my second year staying at this hotel. 3 of us in one room and the room was very spacious (3 single beds). When you arrive the first thing you see are the "39" steps up to the hotel and no porter to carry your luggage!.. But we managed. The staff are lovely. The hotel is right in the centre of Catania and you can walk everywhere, as it's in a safe street. Breakfast is the usual - juice, coffee, brioche. I'd stay here again if I went to Catania.

We spent 2 nights at this small hotel. We paid 80 euros per night including breakfast which consisted of breads, yogurt, typical Italian juice and coffee or tea. It is located in the heart of town. The hotel is on the second floor of an old building which in typical Italian fashion look pretty bad from the outside, but is very nice inside. The room was spacious and the bathroom modern. We booked a double, but were given a triple with an extra bed to put our suitcases on. The staff spoke English, some very well. The internet was free. We considered it a great value for the price.

This hotel is centrally situated just before the most beautiful Piazza Duomo and withing 5 minutes walk. The hotel was a very lovely experience as the reception was welcoming. The reception speaks English very well and was always willing to make you comfortable. As soon as I got there, I was exhausted and the lady gave me bottled water from their cafe right in reception and when I woke up late for breakfast which ends at 10am she asked if I wanted coffee and then told me to sit and brought orange juice and croissants. It was a really great experience and as you can see great customer service.
The rooms are very clean, spacious with airconditioning and balcony. The shower has great water pressure and is spacious. The hotel is is very tight on security so the main door to the street is locked and you buzz to unlock it and each floor is locked as well as your own room which you have a key for, so they really make sure that you are safe. The only downside is the stairs that you have to climb as there is no elevator but I found that most hotels in Catania have the same thing as they are in government buildings.
I found Catania very clean and full of beautiful buildings, Baroque churches and statues, Greek theatres and ruins. clean clear beaches, and the wonderful Bellini gardens with superb views of Etna. It really is a great place and the hotel is a wonderful treat worth more stars than it claims and thus an excellent value.
