“Good, Cheap and right where you want to be”

This hotel will always be one of my favourites, the location is fantastic, rooms are clean and spacious, breakfast isn't amazing (but it's good enough), the couple who run the place are lovely & above all the price is very low for what you're getting.

Best location in Catania, loved the old building and the staff was very friendly and helpful! Definitely coming back!! Perfect place for young couples and group of friends! Unfortunately WIFI did not work in the room, but everywhere else in the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms are spacious, and clean

Best location downtown in Catania, situated in an old fashion building. The rooms are cheap and it's perfect for young people, they guys at the hall are really nice and friendly. The overall rating for rooms and breakfast is good

The hotel is very well located on the main shopping streets in Catania. Very near the mais tourist attractions in Catania. About 15 minutes walking from the train and bus stations. The couple ot reception were always very friendly and approachable. Downside: rooms a bit noisy due to very central location. No breakfast included. Rooms and en suite bathroom a bit dated.

After reading the other reviews, I feel compelled to write one of my own, even though I hesitated to write a review of San Demetrio Hotel, because I usually only write a review if I plan on returning. We were looking for a hotel for a single night and this hotel had a great location and it also had a very inexpensive price. We were willing to give it a chance and the people at the front desk were very nice indeed, but that does not compensate well enough for the poor quality of the room or breakfast. Coffee, juice and a roll may have been the standard 30 years ago, but adding a yogurt and poor quality sliced cheese didn't bring it up to normal standards today. The room was bleek and looked more like a non rated rather than a 2 star room, although the desk and bath may be enough for a 2 star rating. I don't remember noise problems, but rarely complain about things beyond a property's control. I do recall that the balcony was a selling point, but barely held the 2 plastic chairs and very small table, all covered with soot, so therefore, they were impossible to use. The single bulb lighting didn't add to the ambiance.

My most vigorous complaint, however, was that we needed to go to the airport during a passagiatta and I asked the desk clerk twice if that would be a problem for the bus that stopped right outside the building. Twice he told me to not be concerned. We stood outside for over 40 minutes without seeing a single vehicle, then walked over a mile with bags to find the bus, which was rerouted because Via Etnea closes to traffic during the passagiata. It took another hour to get to the airport, since we picked up the bus at a point where it was coming from the airport rather than going to it. The stress of almost missing our plane could have been avoided had the clerk known what he was talking about.

This hotel, B&B really, would be perfect in a Fellini movie.

Room Tip: Try another hotel.

The lady at the reception was very nice and helpful. However, the place is dirty and extremely noisy. In my room I had to endure the whole day and night a poisonous smell of public toilets coming from the en-suite bathroom. Pointing this out to the owner did not help to solve the issue. The bed cover has probably never been washed, judging from its smell.

The building being very old, there is no acoustic isolation, so it is impossible to sleep due to all the traffic noise from the very central street below the windows. Moreover, noises from inside the apartment also penetrate all walls at any time of the day or night: the telephone was still ringing after 10pm, somebody was tingling cups in the kitchen as late as 11pm, people coming back at night would just clash the doors, talk loud, etc.

All in all, a very bad experience that makes me wonder how trustful positive reviews of this place are.

Clean quality hotel with the feel of home. I was checking out early and the staff was very apologetic that I would not get breakfast, making it feel more homey. They went above and beyond to make sure that my short trip to Canania was a success, recommending restaurants and securing a spot on a tour.
