Ipnos B&B
Ranked #132 of 322 Catania B&B and Inns
Reviewed 10 May 2013

I booked the Ipnos in a hurry from the Easyjet hotel booking facility as the price and location looked good and I didn't have time to search around. I was very pleasantly surprised to find it so comfortable and thoughtfully decorated, and particularly impressed by the state-of-the-art, power/waterjet shower installed in my room's private bathroom. I was also delighted to have wi-fi readily available at all times, and a nice sized table to spread out on, and generous storage space (with proper hangers!). The welcome from Rosanna and her colleagues was very warm and helpful, and being a small, friendly B+B it's easy to get to know the other guests. The whole building is currently undergoing renovation, so care has to be taken in reaching the first floor premises, and there's currently scaffolding in the courtyard and work taking place during the day, which might disturb a siesta, but my courtyard-facing room was very quiet at night, surprising given its very central and 'interesting' location - between the central station and the port but also round the corner from the university and historic centre, so very buzzy nearby. The breakfast voucher choice at the nearby Pellagria - a popular hangout with students and families - is very generous, with a choice of savoury as well as the usual cornetti and sweet pastries. The Ipnos will be even more of a comfortable, good value and central choice when the building is finally restored to its former glory (with a modern accent of course).

Room Tip: The courtyard rooms are quieter, and go for the room with bathroom attached rather than across the h...

I just got back from a wonderful one night stay at Ipnos( God of a good night's sleep). I chose it for its proximityto the bus to the airport in Catania that runs frequently and for just 1 euros.
The exterior of the B&B an be spotted from quite a distance, It's tall and painted a soft pink with art deco designs on it. Do not be put off by the first impression as you enter the building. It is being renovated.
Once you go through the dark, green double doors, you enter an oasis, a beautiful retreat. The rooms are bright, clean and decorated with whimsical paper mache sculptures and light fixtures. My room had a large closet for storage a double, comfortable bed and my own private bathroom across the hall. There was a small modern painting of the tragic time when Mt. Etna destroyed Catania in the 1600's.
A hearty breakfast is included and I was given a ticket to the Pelllegrino Cafe a five minutes walk away. The choice there is fantastic. There were homemade croissants and buns with a choice of coffee or hot drink or a savory bun combination. I had my favourite Sicilian treat an arancini with cheese, rice and spinach. That little snack was filling emough to last into the afternoon. I had my breakfast at an outdoor patio with one of the guests that I met at the B&B.
The location of the Ipnos is within a shorty walk to all the major attractions that Catania has to offer, the piazzas, cathedrals, museums, the University, the gigantic market, the Bellini Garden for a full view of Mt. Etna and shopping and cafes. I had no trouble getting Wifi while I was there.
Rosanna Pepe is in charge of the bookings and she speaks fluent English. Her family are extemely conscientious, helpful and informative.
The price for a one night's stay in Ipnos B&B Catania was the best I'd come across in my two week visit in gorgeous Sicily and I highly recommend it !

this place was lovely, the outside of the building is being completely renovated hence the untidy entrance and scafolding behind the building, but the inside is very modern and clean. my room (sunflower room) was the one with balcony and private external bathroom and both bed- and bath-rooms were very spacious, the bedroom had heating, paintings on the high ceilings and tv. the only negative thing was the noise from the street below in the morning, it is a main road and the windows are not double glazed. plus the trains go passed too. I chose this B&B because it's 6mins walk from the station, in between the town and the station really, ideal if you are on public transport. the reception must know what time you are arrrivng as there is nobody in the building and you pay on arrival (I didn't see her again). as in most B&B you can't pay by card because of the high bank charges. there was some sort of light breakfast offered by the hotel but since I was going off early she gave me a voucher for a nearby cafe. I ended up going to the café downstairs instead, the costa cafe, where they were very nice, the food was good and the prices were unbeatable. there seems to be a recuring problem with wi-fi in the B&B so I couldn't use the internet. however I would stay here again because despite the noisy street I slept well and liked the room. very good position in town.

Room Tip: noisy in front. didn't see the back rooms but there are building works going on so could be dark...
