“Fabulous staff - fabulous terrace - fabulous room”
Reviewed 31 May 2013

My first visit to Catania and what luck to have chosen Hotel Villa Romeo - the pictures on the website are a true reflection of the hotel. Located 2 min walk away from Central station - it is easy to locate - especially when arriving from the airport. My room was AMAZINGLY huge, modern and very very peaceful especially with my small balcony overlooking the terrace. The staff are the friendliest and most accommodating I have ever met - and I have stayed in many hotels throughout Italy. They will do their utmost to sort anything out for you even arranging my trip to Etna. The only thing that put me off to begin with was the location is not the 'nicest' or 'prettiest' part of Catania, but it is only a 5 minute walk to the main attractions - and after the first day there, I really did not notice.

Room Tip: As for a room overlooking the terrace...a great way to wake up!

We spent 5 nights in May 2013 in this small heaven. Everything was perfect: clean, quiet, well served by an efficient and well educated personnel. The proximity of the central train and bus stations make it even more interesting and helps much in visiting Sicily. The rooms are fully equipped with TV set (only italian programs) and wi fi.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !

Room Tip: rooms opening to the interior garden are quieter and the view is beautiful

At first we were a little concerned about the hotel, as it is so close to the train station off a small street. But once you get inside the lobby, it's just wonderful, the rooms were very spacious and ours opened into the inside terrace. I believe my room was 117 and it was a superior double, very nice with a writing desk. No tub, only shower in the bathroom and my bathroom was handicapped ready. There was a slight smell of sewer gas but closing the toilet seat and sink trap took care of it, nothing that should reflect on the hotel, it's an old city! The hotel has a nice, big elevator too!

The roof terrace was peaceful and the breakfast room overlooks it. The staff was very accommodating and helpful to our requests. The breakfast was excellent with a wide range of selections and the eggs were a nice touch. Just ask the staff for cappuccino if you prefer to the premised coffee. The fresh fruit was terrific.

Room Tip: Request a room on the inside, off the terrace

This was my 2nd stay at this hotel, the first stay being in 2010. The location of the hotel makes it ideal for train and bus travellers. Via Platamone is not so smart, but many of Catania's streets are very much worse, in terms of decayed buildings, uncollected rubbish and footpath/road neglect.
Once inside the hotel, the welcoming reception staff, the ambience and the clean, fresh smell soon overcomes any negative thoughts about the street.
Management have spent a lot of money upgrading rooms with floating floors, new windows and essential fire protection and escape route signage.
The central courtyard is a quiet refuge from the noise of busy Catania.
My only criticism is that management should have selected windows fitted with insect screens, so that fresh air may be admitted while keeping mosquitoes and insects out.

Not in the smart part of town, but incredibly well-positioned for bus and train stations - and therefore the airport - and a short walk from the historic centre. Rooms comfortable, though rather garishly decorated, beautiful inner sun-drenched courtyard/garden, modest breakfast. Friendly and obliging reception staff, who speak good English. Ideal for one or two nights at beginning or end of your tour of this wonderful island.

We were staying at Villa Romeo for 2 weeks while on holidays. That was quite some time ago .
We had great experience and really enjoyed the hotel. The reception staff was extremely helpful , always giving us good advice and ready to help. At the restaurant as well we enjoyed breakfasts a lot and the service was really good.
Hotel itself was very stylish inside and the rooms really comfortable.
It was a pleasure to stay there and we would recommend Villa Romeo to anybody.

Really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Staff are very helpful and friendly, lovely rooms and great breakfast. Close to train and bus. Very nice pizza place around the corner that was recommended by the staff. Easy walk to city heart.
