Our host, Carmelo, was extremely friendly and helpful in getting us set up for an excursion to Mt. Etna. Our room was stylish and pleasant, and the additional French doors ensured that there was absolutely no street noise. Breakfast was provided by means of a coupon which could be redeemed at a charming café on the nearby Piazza del Duomo. Since I love Italian bars and their incomparable cappucino and pastries in the morning, I found this an excellent way to provide breakfast. Catania itself was an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. We decided toward the end of our trip to Sicily to tack on a day in Catania in order to be able to get to the airport easily. Our only regret is that we did not plan more time there. The city boasts many charming neighborhoods filled with great restaurants, bars, and shops, making it a great foodie destination. The nearby university district is particularly fun. And of course, Catania is an excellent point from which to take an excursion to Mt. Etna.
