My wife and i stayed here in nov 2010 for my birthday. We love italy and got married in sorrento and holiday in italy every year. Firstly the location of this hotel was not great as it was near the port, unfortunately this is were lots of prostitutes and dodgy characters were present day and night,my wife and i did not feel safe, especially at night. The breakfast selection was the poorest we have ever encountered and communication was a massive problem with staff. Also the hotel is situated on a busy road so the noise was 24/7. On the plus side the weather was nice for november and the hotel is clean. How is this hotel number 1 on trip advisor????

Room Tip: Area not great.

Excellent location for the Norman Palace and the Cathedral. Rooms are large, modern and very comfortable.

The hotel would have been 5* for everything if the breakfast had been better. The coffee was a very strange tasting sludge, not a good start to a day.

Ideal for a city break. There will be some street noise at night but that is to be expected because of the location. The rooms are modern and exceptionally clean. The reception staff are very well informed and helpful. We thought the only thing missing was a decent hotel bar. You have to sit in the restaurant that is on the top floor where the food was only OK so eat out to experience Sicily!

Just had a read of the review left on the 24th JAN. A very fair write up that sums up most of what I was going to say. Only complaint is no wifi in room (hotel says because of thick Walls but when I searched for wifi in the room I found a different private wifi that I couldn't access but it proves wifi to the rooms is possible). A very minor point as wifi available in reception and bar free of charge. Everything else is a complete plus with lovely helpful staff, fabulous breakfasts eg fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit salad, baked spiced apples, apple tart tacit, fresh baked cakes such as lemon and chocolate brownies, fresh pastries and the list goes on. Hope you have as great a stay as I did- this hotel deserves to do well.

This is a really lovely hotel - beautiful stylish rooms in an old convent. Breakfast (excellent, lots of everything and an amazing array of cakes) room/bar has a fantastic panoramic view over Palermo to the mountains. It is located in the Kalsa, an old historic part of this almost 3000 year-old city, at the city gate beside the harbour. YOu get a sense of the Moorish past right there, and also of WW2, since some of the bombed out buildings haven't yet been restored after the allied bombing. On one side of the hotel is Via Vittorio Emmanuele, which leads to the main shopping drag, the Cathedral, and all the sights. On the other is Via Lincoln, leading to the Central station (twenty minutes' walk; airport bus leaves every half hour) There is a great fruit and vegetable shop and a really authentic Sicilian trattoria (oilcloth on the table, wonderful food, really cheap) just down the street. Good flea markets on Sunday.
Downside is that the area, all old narrow medieval streets,is dark and lonely - not comfortable for solo travellers, especially female, at least in winter. Possibly in summer there are more tourists around everywhere, and the evenings are longer. There is a bar-restaurant in the hotel, in the rooftop breakfast room; this is not very good in winter but perhaps in summer works better. Apart from that, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to explore Palermo. Especially if you get one of their good off season deals.
