3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2011

The good thing about this hotel is the staff, they are friendly and helpful. Not very good in english though, but as the work quick and provide you with what you need it's forgivable. The roof top pool is not suitable for children and beware of the fact that a baby bed costs an additional 10 euros per day. The breakfast buffet is good, but the food in the same restaurant during the rest of the day is NOT good at all! The hotel is situated in a really BAD neighborhood with prostitutes and garbage (literally) all over the streets. Don't come here with children. At least have a car if you do ( you should either way have a car if you're planning on staying at this hotel). We´ll probably never going to go back to this hotel ever again, but at least the staff are very friendly and professional. The beds are really unconfy by the way :/ Our daughter couldn't sleep either.

Room Tip: Get a room in one of the top floors!!!!!!

Pro: Modern hotel with amenities in good condition, big room, good breakfast, great view to the bay and port from the room, free parking.
Con: poor surrounding, too far from city center, non-comfortable pillow, bad bus connection

I was really keen to find a hotel with a pool as a break from sightseeing in Palermo. The San Paolo Palace has a great rooftop pool and everything else you could want from a modern hotel including 24 hour reception, on-site cash machine, multilingual staff and extensive buffet breakfast. We stayed in two different rooms and both rooms were clean, spacious and well equipped with good airconditioning, mini-bar and room safe. It hasn't got a great deal of character but everything worked and staff were friendly and helpful. The downside is the location as it is about a 20 minute walk to Palermo centre along the fairly busy coastal road but we didn't mind and once we got the hang of the buses/shuttle it was even better. Plus there is free parking for those with cars. There are a few local restaurants, shops etc but these are much quieter than in town. So don't expect downtown Palermo charm but if you want a modern base with a pool and parking, it's great.

I stayed in three different hotels during my Italy trip, and this was by far the best value among them. The room was clean and spacious. The bathroom looked new and well-maintained. The lobby was large, open, and comfortable, and the folks at the front desk were courteous and willing to help. The complimentary breakfast was varied and tasty.

The hotel is on the sea front a mile from the railway station on the road east out of town and is a little out of the town centre. The hotel is seemingly very new as they still are in the process of developing the conference centre. The rooms themselves were very spacious and the breakfast was enjoyable. The outdoor pool on the roof was manned with a lifeguard and everything was very clean and well organised.

We spent four nights at San Paolo. This hotel provided a welcome respite from the chaotic city centre of Palermo. Our 11th floor room had a view of the sea, and the view from the rooftop swimming pool is spectacular, with the sea in front and the mountains behind.
Our room was spacious, with a security safe and a well-stocked mini-bar.
San Paolo is about a 20-minute walk from the old town – admittedly not for the faint-hearted after dark. The hotel provides a shuttle to and from Piazza Politeama in the modern part of the city every hour, until 8 p.m. There is a regular bus service passing by that goes to the central station.
The hotel has a well-equipped gym. The drinks are reasonable in the bar, and the bar staff were very friendly. The breakfast was excellent, with an unlimited selection of fruit, yogurt, cold meats, cheese, scrambled eggs, cereals, pastries and bread.
Taxis from the city centre are expensive: 15 to 20 euro, even though it is only about 1.5 km. There are two very good restaurants near the hotel, where we had dinner on two nights.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Palermo during the summer, as the pool provides a welcome place of rest after a day’s sightseeing.

  • Liked — Rooftop pool with view of sea and mountains - spectacular!
  • Disliked — Taxi fares from city centre - a must after dark, but a rip-off.

If you have a chance to avoid this place - do so!

We paid € 110 per night, found a hotel in shabby 80ies style, with a literally rotten bath mat in the room and extremely unhelpful staff at the reception desk (they are unable/unwilling to explain something on the map, ask questions like "What is your problem" when guests ask details about the invoice etc.).

This hotel is clearly not worth the money they charge.

  • Disliked — I was generally very unhappy with this hotel, see above
