Trattoria Mafone - aka Trattoria del Pesce Fresco - is surely worth the effort required to reach it. It's located well in the heart of the "Capo" district, close by the area during the daytime hosts the street market of "il Capo". Basic but smart table and cloth, family-style service, friendly and informal. The outdoor area is quiet and closed by both sides amid two houses in a sort of hidden internal yard.
I had a very good and abundant "spaghetti with broccoli and sparacelle": lovely, well prepared and tasty. Then I had grilled "sarago" and "calamaro": very good, well prepared, definitely fresh and tasty fish. You are offered the direct choice of those fishes you want to eat, they are there for the customer to check and choose.
The white home wine is also good and cold. Price.... below what you'd fairly expect.

We had lunch with a couple of colleages in this small restaurant. We hesitated to go inside because it was very small but we decided to go because there were some local people. We were very much satisfied. The service was very cordial and quick and we got very good food.
The piccola trattoria serves simple, pure, excellent, traditional cuisine.
fresh fish !
Very small restaurant, among local people at an honest price.
try it

This trattoria is pretty much everything I look for when I go eating out. The place is very, very small, so you’ll need to make a reservation especially on the weekend. I and my girlfriend didn’t, but fortunately we arrived pretty early and had luck! The chef welcomed us and he sorted out a menu for us, we ordered “antipasti”, “secondi” plus wine & water. Everything was fish and thus very fresh and super tasty, probably coming from the “mercato del capo” which is very close to the restaurant. Antipasti turned out to be 4 different dishes, all of them extremely good. We especially loved the “polpette di sarde” which we hadn’t tried so far: so good that the next time I’ll go to this restaurant I’ll surely ask for a double portion of it. The “secondi” were also huge in quantity and excellent in quality, we had for ex. “gamberoni” and “cernia” al forno. We didn’t order “primi piatti” as we had quite a big lunch on that day, but I could spot wonderful “spaghetti ai frutti di mare” being served to other customers. One last remark: not even a small piece of vegetables had been put in the dishes, as they often do, to make the helping seem bigger than they are…here it was 100% fish and our stomachs were pretty filled up after leaving the restaurant. We paid 25 euros each (including drinks, coffee, limoncello & service).

Undoubtedly the best fish restaurant I’ve ever been to. Totally recommended. One drawback? A big television screen broadcasting a football match catching customers’ attention…too bad for the atmosphere, but it seems that in Italy people can’t do without TV anymore, I dislike it but what can one do?
