“Hit and Miss”
Reviewed 8 June 2004

Good things:
1
pool area was very nice (but pool closes between 2pm and 4pm), we could have spent the week there!
2
within easy reach of Palermo, even without a car, the 603 bus went from the hotel into the city and was frequent
3
breakfast was typically Italian and v. nice

Bad things:
1
quite noisy in the rooms, staff didn't care if you complained
2
staff were generally unfriendly (Rosella at breakfast was the only one who knew how to smile!)
3
the first night we ate in the hotel and dinner was delicious the last night we went back and dinner was a disaster, 1.5 hrs to actually place an order and the food was disgusting. I was amazed it could go from so good to so bad.
4
the hotel is not conveniently located if you do not have a car. Taxis to Mondello cost €12.00 and all of the restaurants and bars are there. It is only about 20 minutes by foot but it is not possible to walk as there are no pavements and italian drivers are not looking out for pedestrians - it's a terrifying walk!
5
the hotel website said there was a lovely beach in front of the hotel but it was a stony car park.
the website also said there was a shuttle bus from the hotel to Mondello - it didn't specify that this is only during the high season (15th June onwards)

Tips:

we took a train (€4.50) and a taxi (€35.00) from the airport to get there but you can actually book a shuttle bus for €30.00 for 2 people with Toboggan tour operators

the 603 goes from the hotel to Palermo, to go right to the centre get out at the last stop, walk towards the stadium and turn left and take the 101 right to the tourist area

the 603 and 833 go from the hotel to Mondello however don't expect to get one back after 7.30pm

bus tickets are available at kiosks, cost €1 for 120 minutes of travel.

If you want to go somewhere nice in Italy in June with good weather go to Pescara, it is a lot nicer!!

When we first arrived at the Addaura, we were very impressed. Our room was lovely, large, with minibar, two balconies and air conditioning. We arrived mid-June and our problem was that they did not consider this summer and therefore did not provide any kind of shuttle to their guests. This presented a problem because a 10 minute drive to Mondello where the good beach and the restaurants were was $20.00 Euro.
Therefore, the reasonable cost of the hotel was not worth it as it was inconvenient and more expenses. They advertise a nice beach, but this is not so. It is small and you have to climb many rocks to go for a swim. Another thing was there were barking dogs all night. We complained because we were kept up all night and the hotel said they could not do anything about it. This, coupled with the exhorbitant taxi fares, made this hotel a nightmare.
