“Very enjoyable stay with fantastic service”
Reviewed 8 July 2009

My wife and I stayed at the Del Centro in May, when the weather was warm but not too hot. We only stayed for a few nights, but we found our time there to be truly enjoyable.
The city itself is without comparison; easily the most beautiful I've ever been to, and the Del Centro was located, well, centrally. Close to the rail station, close to buses, close to fantastic upscale shopping.
We had some trouble with our airline tickets, and the staff were beyond helpful. they bent over backwards to help us out. The chap also recommended the most incredible restaurant; which captured our mood and palate perfectly. The room rate was fantastic, considering the location, time of year, and the service.
The breakfast was lovely, with pastries, juice, etc. The breakfast room was very nicely decorated, and the service was fine.
The room... Well the room was the cutest, most romantic room; it was a split level suite with a spiral staircase leading to a bedroom with the most comfortable mattress EVER. We were a bit worried about road noise; the young people on their scooters are out all night it seems, honking away, but the room was stone quiet. I don't know much about Sicilians, but the ones that maintain this hotel keep a very clean business - not even dust under the bed! Spotless bathroom, with clean tiles and grout; something very important to us. All the usual amenities as well - shower gel, soap, plenty of loo roll, etc.
To give you an idea of how much we like this hotel, this is the first time we've ever felt compelled to write a review on this website!
If you stay here, I'm sure you will have a wonderful, romantic, and well-priced stay at the Del Centro.

If you have travelled at the 3-star level in Italy, you will be familiar with run down pensiones and wondering why the owners don't just shell out for a refurb more often than every 30 years. The kind of place where the tv in the room is used only by the maids to watch Italian soaps, the breakfast is inedible (apart from the coffee) and the bathrooms are clean but otherwise unimpressive. This is exactly such a place, though it is at the more charming end of the spectrum, with large rooms, romantic (if decaying) balconies and terraces in most rooms and a generally romantic feel that reminded me slightly of similar places in Paris.

The price is very good, though. If you want somewhere cleaner and more modern, try Ambasciatori. If you want something slightly cheaper and more individual, del Centro is recommended.

The Del Centro couldn't be better situated. 5 minutes walk from the train station (this is also where the airport buses drop you off) and 5 minutes in the other direction from the 4 Corners and the main sights.
Our room was big with high ceilings. As it was March it was a bit cold but the staff would put the heating on on request.
Breakfast was plentiful and the lady serving the coffee was friendly and helpful.
In fact all the staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful. The hotel also had free internet access.
1 Review mentions that it is on the 2nd floor but we had no problems with the lift while we were there. Would thoroughly recommend it.

Great, helpful staff who are english speaking.Excellent, money for value breakfast and lovely breakfast room.rooms are roomy.only "critique" is that our room smelt of cigarette smoke when we arrived, but within a short time we were able to get rid of this by opening the window. Great location and very handy to all amenities, train station, markets, shopping and local attractions.Would recommend this Hotel as is excellent value for money and almost like a 4star instead of 3.

We booked our hotel for 60 euro a night through www.booking.com and had no problems with the site and paid upon leaving the hotel. Hotel del Centro is located about a 5 minute walk away from the train station on the main road and about 10 minutes from the Four Corners. There's a lot of shops, stores and cafes in the area and it's in a pretty safe neighborhood. The staff speaks excellent English and are very friendly. The hotel is located on the 2nd (3rd in Europe) floor, and you have to take a rickety/small elevator to it. The elevator does work, but depending on how much luggage and how big you are you might have to take turns using it. This was not a big deal to us since we just packed two carry-ons and my husband and I are both thin. I asked on booking.com to be placed opposite the street and the hotel obliged, so there was no street noise (we were in room 23). When we first got to our room there were some noises coming from upstairs, but that night it was quiet. The walls separating the bathrooms seem like they're pretty thin though...we could hear our neighbor coughing up and spitting out a lung. We didn't have any problems sleeping through the night though and were not disturbed. The bed was on the ancient side of old, but not uncomfortable enough to bother us. The room was basic European size, the bathroom was surprisingly large, and we had a balcony that overlooked the domes (BEAUTIFUL pictures in the morning as the sun rose!). Breakfast in the morning was pretty lame, but usually is in Europe. It was bread, cereal, yogurt, fruit and a cappuccino/coffee bar. The hotel and our room was very clean, and the cleaning lady was very friendly as well. In fact, I think everyone we encountered in Sicily was friendly. If you're older or have problems walking up steps, make sure to tell the hotel before you arrive because there are only steps, no elevator, to get to the upper floor inside the hotel itself. Overall, my husband and I were very pleased with the location, service, and what we received for the price we paid. An excellent choice!

After much research on Palermo, settled for this hotel as it was best located, had good reveiws on TA and was a good price, which all spot on, thank you TA!. it was £117 all in for 2 people, king bed and a single, balcony, bathroom no bath, fri and sat in Feb 09 included breakfast. Really recommend this hotel for the best kind of location for walking anywhere, like teatro massimo (15 mins), cappuccini catacombs (40 mins) cathedral (15 mins) harbour (15 mins) markets everywhere, plus it's a 2-3 minute walk from the train station. Its really easy to get to and from airport from hotel - the aeroport bus is only 5.60 euros pay the driver, and goes every half hour (there and back) for the 50 minute trip. We had room 15 with a balcony with a great view up and down via roma. YOu can still smoke in rooms, so ours smelled a bit of smoke, only noticed first time walked in tho.

After having stayed in the best 3-star hotel in Sicily (Hotel Villa Ducale in Taormina), our one-night stay (thank God) at Hotel del Centro was a sad and depressing experience. At our arrival at the front door, our baggage piled on the street, my wife and I discovered that the hotel is on the "second" floor (meaning, in Europe, the third floor). Okay, but the elevator wasn't working, and the hotel refused to send down anyone to help us lug our bags up three flights of stairs. Only one guy at the front desk, you see, and no other available staff. This is a 3-star hotel? The next shock - our room wasn't actually on the floor of the front desk but, you guessed it, up another flight of stairs. The front-desk guy summoned a maid who carried up one bag. Our room was the next depressing surprise. Dimly lit, cramped, and a tiny bathroom my wife and I could not fit into at the same time (not really a big deal, but it gives you an idea of the size). The shower was so small (and I am not making this up), there was barely enough room to turn around in, and there was no shelf to put your soap, so when taking a shower, you had to exit and put your soap down on the bidet next to the shower. The hotel provided two tiny bars of soap, no shampoo, and only one glass. The TV was a tiny 13-inch CRT screen, with no English-language programming (not even the usual CNN). I can't believe this hotel is a 3-star. I give it 2 stars, barely. By the way, there was mold on the tile grout in the shower. And, the A/C was inefficient, so we had to leave the one window open - which looked out on a tiny alleyway, and the neighbors decided to engage in a loud party with much screaming that lasted into the wee hours of the morning. We got no sleep.

Avoid Hotel del Centro - there are plenty of other choices in Palermo.
