“Four star at last!”
Reviewed 13 October 2012

This hotel was the last on our tour of Sicily and we were so excited to see the four stars on the door! The average rating I have given is because there is no option to select Good!
At last we had reception staff who were interested in us and happy to answer our queries. They were attentive and my extra pillows arrived in less than a minute!
Situation is good for buses and taxis and also for wandering the side streets around Palermo.
Our room on the 8th floor was tired but clean and the bathroom well appointed. For the first time on the trip we had "real" towels too!
If we return to the city we will use this hotel again. The choice at breakfast was the best of the trip. The first eggs we had seen for a week were a pleasant change too.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms on the front give a good view over the square and towards the mountains.

Stayed here for 1 night before returning home from Palermo Airport. The hotel is perfectly situated in the centre of Palermo ; close to taxi ranks; the airport bus stops directly outside every half hour . Hotel personnel were extremely pleasant and helpful, from reception to portering and room servicing - needed 2 extra pillows and they were delivered within 5 minutes. Rooms spotlessly clean - bathroom was a little small but very clean and well equipped. Room lighting needs to be addressed as decor is dark , needs better overhead lighting for reading in bed. I would most definitely try to stay again at Politeama Palace whe I return to Sicily.

Room Tip: rooms on the side street part of the hotel are quieter.

I have stayed in this hotel twice in the past 6 weeks and at least 4 or 5 times over the last 5 years. I go to Sicily in May June when it is cooler and again for the Santa Rosalia celebrations on the 14th / 15th July. This is my hotel of choice. The rates are now excellent and very competitive with the cheaper range of hotels around the station. So for very little more you get a first rate hotel. the airport bus into Palermo stops in the square outside the hotel. The Segesta bus ticket office is 20 yards down the road and their buses out of Palermo leave from outside. the Statione Centrale is a 20 minute direct walk / 1.30 euro bus ride downtown.

As a single traveller in May, I had a double room on the 8th floor with a balcony overlooking Piazza Politeama - perfect. In July I was allocated a single room with no balcony, but I just asked if I could have one, and they accommodated me with no problem - on the 10th floor. The view across Palermo was spectacular. The beds are very comfortable and clean. Some rooms are rather dark, but that is to keep the heat out.

Breakfast is very good with everything you would want. The place to eat ? Enzo's down by the station

The desk staff are courteous, speak excellent English and wil help in any way they can

Room Tip: If you are not happy with the room allocated, ask to see another. they will always try to assist...

We stayed in a double room for 4 nights, costs 306€ including the breakfast. The room was old, but nice size, although the bathroom was very small. Air conditioning wasnt' working properly, the only you could choose was the max and it was terribly noisy, couldn't keep on during nights. Our own fault was that we didn't complain about it. Hotel seemed very full, not sure that they would've had another room for us.

Rooms were OK, but quite a surprise was that they didn't change our towels daily, even though we had left those to dry and you can see that they have been used. Even the towel that you can keep on the bathroom floor after shower was the same! The sheets were mostly clean, one 10 cm long, black stain was in my bed sheet and they didn't change the sheets either, even though the cleaner must have seen that stain. This is why I wouldn't give 4 stars for this hotel, and also because of the air conditioning not working properly.

They had a flat screen TV but no english speaking channes except BBC news. Also WiFi was offered but we couldn't access because we didn't see the password anywhere. Personal view of decorating wasn't a match with this hotel, seemed stuffy for us. Heavy curtains and dark colours used, bathroom was very old and disturbing, but worked properly. Shower gel they offered smelled bad to us :D

Hotel was very well located, you can see the Politeama piazza and theathre from the window. Location also gives lots of noise from the very morning (traffic). Most of the staff spoke english. Breakfast was OK, muesli and different kind of buns and croissants, eggs, yoghurt, muesli, cheese and ham, and one morning they also served scrambled eggs. They had a barista who made coffees and other hot drinks when asked.

Overall, it was OK place with an excellent location, and the english speaking staff was very helpful whenever we needed any info at all. Quick chek-in and chek-out. Cheking out was 2 hours later (at noon instead of 10 a.m.) than what they informed when booking, a nice surprise!

Room Tip: Rooms where you can see the Politeama theathre were noisy because of the traffic.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights (May 3-4/12) as the beginning of our tour of Sicily and Southern Italy. Initially we were disappointed, finding that the online photos had made it look a little more upscale. The air is stale in the reception area as well as in the rooms. However, the gentleman at reception was welcoming and very helpful. After opening the window to let some air into our room, we were quite content. The room and bathroom was clean and comfortable. The dining room served a good selection of breakfast items, so all in all, we were happy to have started our journey at such a great location. What impressed us the most was the music in the Politeama square on the evening we arrived. The romance was instant and we fell in love with Palermo... As for location, one couldn't ask for better. It was an easy walk to most sites we wanted to visit and buses convenient also. The airport shuttle was practically at the front door of the hotel, which was a blessing for us when it was time to leave for the airport, with our heavy luggage, to pick up our rental car to start our journey through Italy. We would recommend the hotel to those travellers who are looking for a comfortable place to stay rather than luxury.

Dear client,
Thank you for reporting the characteristic
main of the hotel: the location.
At the heart of the city, in Piazza Politeama, customers
have the opportunity to walk to many
monumental points.
Comfortable shuttle bus outside the hotel that leads to the airport!
Thanks again

My wife and I stayed here on 9 May 2012 as part of a Cosmos tour of southern Italy. The location is excellent, right in front of the Politeama Theatre and the hop-on bus stops right outside. It's in an up-market area, with many luxury shops along the tree-lined Via Liberta. There is a good cafe in the next side street, and you can buy foreign language newspapers just across the road in front of the theatre.
The hotel is clean, and the service and breakfast are very good. We had a quiet room with a view on the 8th floor.
Our only complaint is that there was no English on the TV (as is often the case in Sicily), and tree is no free wifi.

The Politeama is a four star hotel located right next to the Teatro Politeama. I had a nice room on the 7th floor overlooking the Plaza in front of the theater. Except for the car alarm that went off at 3:00 am I enjoyed my stay there. It’s located in a very upscale area; there is a Prada store on the corner. Of special importance is the McDonalds .With your back to the Teatro, it’s across the boulevard on the left side of the street It has only a small yellow sign.. The €1 cheeseburger and €1 fries (patate regulari) are the best deal in Europe! For sightseeing, buy a bus ticket for € 1.30 at the kiosk on the ‘island’ area of the boulevard and take the #104 Bus to the Plaza dei Normanni. It’s the grey wall-like fortress on the right side of the bus. There is a fairly obvious entrance ramp. Inside is the must-see sight in Palermo, the Palatine Chapel. It’s like the Sistine Chapel but done in mosaics! It’s €7.0 to see it; do not buy the €2.0 ticket to see the pile of rocks in the basement. There is also a separate ticket to see the Royal Apartments which are not always open. After seeing the chapel you can walk down Via Victor Emanuele through the Porto Nuova (a scary car-person interactional experience) to see the Cathedral which looks like a hybrid constructed from leftover parts of cathedrals from various centuries. Then continue to the Quattro Canti (Four Corners). Nearby, the Plaza Pretoria has an impressive fountain. Next, try to find the streets where the local outdoor markets are held (you’ ll need a map). You should try to ‘angle’ towards the train station. There you can catch the #101 or #102 bus which will stop right in front of the Politeana Hotel.
