“Central location and excellent value in Palermo”
Reviewed 22 June 2012

I stayed for a week in the Palazzo Savona. Althought it is nothing luxurious, it is very clean and well maintained. The hotel is a building constructed in the middle of the 1920s on the corner of Via Roma and Via Vittoria Emmanuelle. For that reason, it is admittedly rather noisy. That said, if you closed the shutters and the windows, you blocked out most of the noise.

The hotel is really perfectly situated: only seven minutes by foot to the train stations to make excursions out of town, and just steps away from Quattro Canti, Piazza Pretoria and La Martorana. La Kalsa and the Vucchiria are also just steps away. The entrance of the hotel is a bit dark if you arrive at night, but the building is safe and really beautiful on the interior.

The beds were clean and comfortable, although the bedsheets were a bit threadbare.

The hotel felt in some way like being in an American university dormitory: you have your own private bedroom, but there are shared bathrooms, along with a communal kitchen. All of the communal spaces were clean; the shower sometimes was a bit erratic with the hot water.

I would skip the breakfast there. Breakfast in Italy is simply execrable--nothing but sugary pastries, terrible if you're going sightseeing and you need something more substantive. On arrival, go to the supermarket and get whatever you need for breakfast (there is a clean refrigerator in the communal kitchen as well.)

It should also be pointed out that there is not always staff at the front desk. Make sure to check the hours that the staff will be there if you have any questions.

Next time I'm back in Palermo, I am definitely going to go back there again.

we stayed here for 5 nights. It was great for the price. we just wanted somewhere that was clean, safe, great location and cheep. It covered all of that to a T. the only down side is that the rooms over looking Via Roma are very noisy with the traffic so if you are a light sleeper then ask for a room not over looking Via Roma. Also the reception is not open 24/7 so if you want to check in outside those set hours then you have to organize it with them. The breakfast isn't great so you may be better off for your 3 euro walking down the street and getting something better. If you are just after a bed and some where to put your stuff while out sight seeing then this place is for you

Room Tip: Ask for a room not over looking Via Roma. it will be less noisy hopefully

I loved this place (my review is last year) - yes it's noisy but you are in a city centre in the height of summer - lean out of the window/balcony and enjoy the atmosphere, drink some local wine, then put some earplugs in and shut the shutters (leaving the windows open) and you will have one of the most relaxing night's sleep ever!! Bye the way, kids slept like logs without the wine, earplugs etc.)

A great central place to stay. Rooms are air-conned and there's free wi-fi.

Breakfast is €3. for this you get bread, toast, ham, cheese, juice, tea, coffee.

Central location means quite a lot of road noise from via Roma- especially beeping and arguing drivers revving their engines. This is blocked out 85% by the shutters and windows.

There is a lift up as it's located on the 2nd floor- handy for backpacks and heavy cases. Be careful to arrive during reception hours as they are shut for several hours from midday to late afternoon.

Criticism would be that the bathrooms need to be cleaned more regularly. By the end of the day the floors are covered with muddy footprints.

Overall a very good place to stay.

We booked through budgetplaces.com so didn't know what to expect but were happily surprised to find our room was huge & included a balcony over looking one of the main roads in Palermo allowing for great people watching. Luckily the street noise is silenced by the 2 layers of door. Only a few downside, the lack of mirror in your room and the inconvenient reception hours. There is a communal space but it isn't used like a hostel so it's hard to pick the brains of other travellers. Otherwise great water pressure in the shared shower, clean and tidy with a simple breakfast for an extra 3 euros.
