“Needs Work”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

The hotel has a nice location near the water in Ortygia, the old part of the town. They have converted several old buildings and turned them into a hotel. The common areas are nice although the room itself was a bit tired. The bed was very hard and neither the bed linens nor the towels were high quality. The bathroom was tiny. Overall the room was functional but not great. They unfortunately scent the rooms with perfume sticks and the smell was rather overwhelming. We ended up putting the perfume sticks on the balcony so we could avoid the smell but the housekeeping staff would re-perfume it daily. The best part of the hotel was the staff, Marcello at the front desk in particular. He was extremely helpful in parking our car, making good restaurant recommendations and providing us with a list of sights in Syracuse. He was friendly and knowledgeable. The waterfront area of Syracuse, in general, should continue its transition to clean up garbage and graffiti and to repair and reinvent abandoned buildings much like has been done with the main square. Algila could make a few changes to the room which would help make it feel more like a small, boutique hotel including upgrading the beds, bedding and towels.

Dear Sir,
thank you for your suggestions: we will make good use of them although lines and towels are Frette, the brand known and usually appreciated by customers. The mattresses are also appreciated for the comfort and quality of sleep, but we understand that not all customers have the same needs. If you should came back to us, we will provide a different kind of mattress. We are fighting for years with the municipal administration to gain the permission of the spaces in front of the hotel in order to clean them up and sending them to green available to customers. Unfortunately, you know, in our beautiful country, the bureaucracy has its long, long time.

Looking forward to meeting you soon
Best regards

We found it through trip advisor, we did not have any idea about this hotel! However, it surprised us! The building was old , but beautiful. It combines the antique, classic with the modern comfort. Room is well decorated and good in size.
Location is very good, few minutes walk to the sight seeings and centre of the town. A lot of restaurants close by, most of them are good in price and food. And they also have a good sea view!
Good breakfast, a lot of fresh fruits, many choices for order, 24 hours free water and juices in the bar and your mini bar....
They even printed the sight seeings location close by in Ortigia and Siracusa , Noto for your reference.
All the staffs are friendly, helpful and nice, is everyone...
Why they are not excellent?
There are still some minor problems... Such as the sun was too shiny every morning, and the curtain were not able to cover... Sun shines in every early morning if you are in sea view room. And the bath room sometimes has water comes out after bathing.

Dear Sir,
We are glad to have hosted and not to have disappointed.
Our small hotel boasts a centuries-old history, the building is old but it has been completely refurbished internally.
The services that we provide for free are a lot such as bicycles, mini bar, national and international calls, etc. They enhance the hotel value ... the light of the sun, in the Land of the Sun, is also free. It 'just a joke ... all the windows that open onto the sea are equipped with curtains that can be pulled down at any time without obscuring the view of the sea during the day. We have, however, also the inner chambers, but less sunny with excellent views over the internal courtyards

Looking forward to meeting you

We spent three nights here and enjoyed the location on Ortigia, which is an island comprising the old, historic area of Syracusa. Everything is within walking distance, even the Parco Arcologico (not to be missed) is a pleasant stroll through the main town. We had a superior room with a sea view although this was over the car park directly in front of the hotel! The room was fine although the bathroom lacked a bath and although the staff were friendly and helpful the hotel were unable to provide a mosquito plug when one of the little creatures took a shine to me. The hotel lacks outside space unless you rent room 401 and we missed this when the time came for our evening drink. However the Piazza Duomo is less than ten minutes walk away and sitting there in the evening is a memorable experience.

Dear Martin,
I am glad that everything was up to your expectations.
Algilà is a small hotel and, indeed, the common areas are few. We are struggling for years with the Local Council because grant us permission to furnish the space in front of the hotel as common areas for guests ... but not easy.
From this year we are able, however, to satisfy this need by providing an aperitif and dinner in the beautiful outdoor terrace of the Grand Tour Restaurant, adjacent to Piazza Duomo, where, I am sure, you have met your expectations.

Sincerely

Ortigia was a great place to start our holiday and the Aliga Charme was a great choice of hotel. Not the easiest place to find ( Sat Nav got us close) but we drove past the hotel just and its a busy old street ... ..but we spotted it behind us and were reversing back towards it when a pair of super Hotel staff spotted us, came out .. assured us we were in the right place and got us parked and unloaded.
Initially we were slightly disappointed with the room, a view over nothing much,( an internal open space) but it was lovely and quiet and cool. But it was 100% fit for purpose, Great shower room and very comfy beds.
Locationally this hotel is right there on the quiet coast of Ortigia, but the busy bustling coast is a pretty short walk away. Good restaurants are close by and the hotel is happy to provide recommendations and maps etc.
In fact the hotel staff and their excellence are the key to this hotels real attraction.
the other top feature is the breakfast !

Great Breakfast ..order anything you like .. no extra charge and a fab buffet to boot. We started both days well vittled up for sure.

Plus a selection of free water and soft drinks throughout the day, and a small mini-bar with complementary soft drinks.
Should you decide to stay here ..go see the local market ... great sights and smells !
Liked Ortigia and enjoyed our stay at the Aliga Charme Hotel

Dear Sir,
I am glad that everything was up to your expectations and thank you for your review.
Let me do a note of immodesty: I think we are the only group that can offer different possibilities for the most varied requirements. Our company, in fact, also runs elegant apartments located on the waterfront of the west, the most vibrant part of Ortigia. For your next stay, please visit our site to find the best offer and the best room, or do not hesitate to call us!

I have just returned from a holiday in Sicily where I and my friend stayed at the Algila Charme Hotel for almost two weeks. It occupies a renovated XIX mansion and skilfully combines modern comfort with elements of history scattered around in a carefully designed manner. The building is beautiful, and it is a pleasure to explore its little nooks and corners. Rooms may seem a little on the small side (we had a classic double, apparently suites are larger), with just enough room for travel bags and personal belongings of two persons, but as we never intended to spend most of the time indoors, we were not inconvenienced by this fact. The bathroom was clean, with several sets of fresh towels and a small Bulgary beauty set. The breakfast is plentiful and has a good choice, so that one doesn't get bored even after 10 days of stay. Dinners served at the restaurant in the evening are delicious! What distinguishes Algila is the people who work there and the small extras that may not lie on the surface, but are a pleasant surprise to discover. The team is always friendly, positive, knowledgeable and ready to help. My special thanks goes out to Laura and Magdalena at the reception desk who were always there for us and responded promptly to all requests we had. As for the extras, they are, among other things, free beach towels (even though the hotel is not on the beach), drinks buffet in day hours (with my favourite almond milk), bikes, free international calls.

Dear Ekaterina,
thanks for being our guests.
Your review is the reward for our efforts, I am glad you enjoyed everything.
In Syracuse certainly can not be bored: for your next, long stay I would recommend booking one of our junior suites which are more spacious. Do it thoroughly in advance, you can take advantage of a very reasonable rate.
No lack of surprises among the pampering we reserve for our guests: beach towels, umbrellas, drinks, mini bar, bicycles, phone calls ... all free, and you'll always find smiling Laura and Magda to welcome you

Looking forward to meeting you soon

We stayed 3 nights in room 401 which had a terrace and hot tub. The staff at this hotel was very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast (which was included) was extensive & tasty. This hotel was in a great location for walking to all destinations. The front desk was very helpful with restaurant choices. We traveled with two other couples and their rooms were very quaint & unique. I would stay here again.

A beautiful, contemporary conversion in this delightful city that until 30 years ago was apparently a no go zone. This hotel does exactly what it says on it's description. We had an effortless, relaxed stay thanks in part to the extremely helpful guy on reception (sorry can't remember his name). Our room was cool and comfortable with a small balcony looking over the water. Thanks for the huge array of gluten free products at breakfast. Highly recommended.
