“Fantabulous ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2014 via mobile

Domus Mariae Benessere was an amazing hotel. It is owned by an order of nuns. The hotel is right up against the sea on the island of Ortygia. It is located in Via Veneto. The hotel is half hotel half spa. There is a pool, but it is for the spa and costs money to use. If you wish to relax you can have a manicure, pedicure, and many other things. There is a terrace on the top floor of the building. There is breakfast from 8 to 10 in the morning. There are menus on the table for drinks, but during breakfast hours, it's free.

The hospitable Ursuline Sisters manage a meticulously well-appointed hotel in old Ortygia that is a beautifully restored school connected to an old church. Our room looked out onto the sea, a delightful bonus. We would love to return and continue our exploration and enjoyment of this enchanting and historic city as well as enjoy the spa located here in the hotel. Two nights were not enough! A place to regain your physical, mental and spiritual balance.

Dear Guest,
thank you for your review.
You're right, two days are not enough to see everything is on Ortigia and surroundings of Siracusa.
There's so many history that you have absolutely to come back.

Than you for your positive comments.
We hope to welcome you again.

Best regards

So far, this is the cleanest and most modern hotel of our ten day Sicily tour. The beds are wonderful and the bathroom is fantastic. This converted convent is located on the water front in the old part of Syracuse (Ortygia). Conveniently located for walking Ortygia. Wi-Fi was great in our room, but evidently it was a little sporadic or nonexistent for others in the group. Never made it to the roof terrace since the weather was not the greatest when we would had a chance to go; however, the first floor terrace area was nice as was the courtyard outside reception. My wife used the Spa and reported that it was quite nice. Breakfast was fairly standard based on our experience throughout Sicily.

Room Tip: 1. We found the wi-fi works great on the first floor. 2. Ask for a ocean view room. 3. Get to b...

Elegant updated rooms with modern bathroom. Free Wifi in room. Wonderful breakfast buffet with much variety. Some items available cost extra. Great location with a short walk to the Duomo. Helpful desk staff eager to make your stay memorable. They even lent us a corkscrew from their bar.

We spent 4 nights here from late Jan to early February. The weather fluctuated from wild storms to sunny, and the ocean view was always exciting - the breakers here are BIG! The old sea wall conjures images of Ulysses. The location is quiet and PERFECT for access to everything Ortegia has to offer, the hotel amenities (including spa) very fine, and the appointments of each floor are exquisite. Breakfast is very good, and the relaxation pool (not really exercise pool) is warm and relaxing. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view room.

Beautifully updated old convent in Ortygia (historic district). Our room was very large with updated bath. Breakfast was very good. Spa amenities are unusual is this size hotel. We discovered the small indoor pool as we were leaving. The nuns prowling the property are a nice touch, but, naturally, they don't speak much English. Don't miss the chapel/church on the way to the breakfast room, it is beautiful. We were on a Rick Steve's tour, and some folks had great rooms with sea views.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

We spent 5 nights in Domus Mariae Benessere - 25-30Nov in the building with the sea view. We had two rooms - one double and one with two single beds with sea views. The rooms were next to each other. Indeed the view of the sea is amazing and the location of the hotel is very convenient. We were within 15 minutes walking distance to the local market and shops and restaurants and 30minutes to the ruins.

Though the building and room facilities are basic, the rooms are spacious and the staff are all very warm, friendly and helpful. We are especially thankful to Cinzia who helped us contact the airlines and airport offices to trace our lost luggage and was most reassuring throughout the two days we were without our luggage,

We enjoyed the breakfast spread - we found it healthy, fresh and very tasty -it provided us a good start to our days and the staff exercised flexibility by allowing us an early breakfast when we had an early tour during one of the days of our stay. We love the fresh coffee - much appreciated as the days were quite cold during our stay and the fresh tomato salad is wonderful - we bought spices from the market to try to recreate the dish when we're home.

We hope the room heating will be restored soon - Cinzia and the staff were most apologetic about the breakdown. All the best with the repair!

Room Tip: Have the sea facing room but be careful during the rains as water can seep into the rooms if the out...
